    Earthquake in Japan 2021 ( April 26, 2021)

Powerful Earthquake in Japan 2021. Japan Lifts Tsunami Advisory After 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Off Northeast. The quake hit at 6:09 pm (0909 GMT) in Pacific waters off Miyagi region with a depth of 60 kilometres (37 miles), the JMA said, issuing an advisory for tsunami waves of around one metre. The so-called triple disaster affected Japan's northeast, including Miyagi

THE STORM IS OVER: Arriving hours earlier than expected, a CME hit Earth's magnetic field on April 24th (2307 UT). The impact sparked a brief G1-class geomagnetic storm, stopping short of the stronger G2-class storm in the forecast. The storm is over now and only minor geomagnetic unrest is likely as Earth exits the CME's wake. Solar wind speed: 474.5 km/sec

These are "dunes," a newly recognized form of aurora named after their resemblence to desert sand dunes. A team of researchers first explained them in a paper published just last year. Dunes are a "mesospheric bore"--a type of atmospheric gravity wave that springs up from Earth's surface and gets caught in a thermal waveguide ~100 km high. When solar wind particles rain down on the bore, they illuminate its rippling structure.

Sky watchers in the Arctic have been seeing Dunes for years without understanding what they were. A breakthrough came on Oct. 7, 2018, when multiple groups photographed dunes from widely separated locations in Finland. Triangulation revealed the dunes to be ~100 km high with a pure, monochromatic wavelength of about 45 km.

This is a new field of study with potential for discovery. Monitoring aurora dunes may reveal previously hidden waves and waveguides at the boundary between Earth and space. Have you seen a dune?

SUPER 'PINK' MOON, April 26, 2021
The Super Pink Moon (The Largest Full Moon) of the Year is also known as the Subulata Phlox Moon to fall on 26th/27th.

    https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/news/1818/the-next-full-moon-is-a-supermoon-pink-moon/

The Next Full Moon is the Pink Moon, the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, the Fish Moon, the Paschal Moon (for Eastern Christianity), Hanuman Jayanti, Bak Poya, and a Supermoon.

The next full Moon will be late Monday night, April 26, 2021, appearing opposite the Sun in Earth-based longitude at 11:32 p.m. EDT. This will be the next day from the Atlantic Daylight Savings timezone eastward across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia to the International Date Line. Most commercial calendars are based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and will show this full Moon occurring on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Sunday night through Wednesday morning.

In the 1930s the Maine Farmer's Almanac began publishing American Indian Moon names for the months of the year. According to this almanac, as the full Moon in April, this is the Pink Moon, named after the herb moss pink, also known as creeping phlox, moss phlox, or mountain phlox. The plant is native to the eastern United States and is one of the earliest widespread flowers of spring.

The term "supermoon" was coined by the astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and refers to either a new or full Moon that occurs when the Moon is within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to Earth.

Supermoons have become popular over the last few decades. Depending upon how you interpret this definition, in a typical year there can be 2 to 4 full supermoons in a row and 2 to 4 new supermoons in a row.

Since we can't see a new Moon (except where it eclipses the Sun), what catches the public's attention are the full supermoons, as this is when the full Moon appears near its biggest and brightest for each year.

    Summary of Upcoming Celestial Events

Here is a summary of celestial events between now and the full Moon after next (with times based on the location of NASA Headquarters in Washington):

As spring continues in the northern hemisphere the daily periods of sunlight continue to lengthen. On Monday, April 26, 2021 (the day of the full Pink Moon), morning twilight will begin at 5:14 a.m. EDT, sunrise will be at 6:16 a.m., solar noon will be at 1:05:48 p.m. when the Sun will reach its maximum altitude of 64.87 degrees, sunset will be at 7:56 p.m., and evening twilight will end at 8:59 p.m. By Wednesday, May 26, 2021 (the day of the full Moon after next), morning twilight will begin at 4:38 a.m., sunrise will be at 5:47 a.m., solar noon will be at 1:05:10 p.m. when the Sun will reach its maximum altitude of 72.37 degrees, sunset will be at 8:23 p.m., and evening twilight will end at 9:33 p.m.

On Monday evening, as evening twilight ends at 8:59 p.m. EDT, the planet Mars will appear about 38 degrees above the western horizon. The planets Venus and Mercury will have already set, but you might be able to catch them in the glow of dusk from about 30 minutes after sunset until they set in the west-northwest.

The bright star appearing closest to directly overhead will be Regulus – the heart of the lion in the constellation Leo – appearing 63 degrees above the southern horizon. Regulus is about 79 light-years from us and is one of four stars that we see as one (two binary star systems orbiting each other).

The brightest of the stars in our night sky, Sirius – the Dog Star – will appear 16 degrees above the southwestern horizon. Sirius is a binary star system about 8.6 light-years from Earth. The bright stars of the local arm of our home galaxy including the constellation Orion will appear spread along the horizon from the south-southwest towards the west.

As the lunar cycle progresses, the planet Mars and the background of stars will appear to shift toward the west, although it is actually the Earth that is moving around the Sun towards the east. Mars will appear to shift more slowly than the stars since Mars is moving in the same direction we are.

Beginning April 29, the planet Mercury will appear above the horizon in the west-northwest as evening twilight ends.

On May 12, you might be able to see the very thin, waxing crescent Moon low on the horizon in the west-northwest, appearing to the left of Venus from about 30 minutes after sunset until the pair sets about 5 minutes before evening twilight ends. However, the crescent Moon might be too thin to see, especially without binoculars or a telescope.

On May 13, the thin, waxing crescent Moon will have shifted higher in the sky to appear to the left of Mercury in the west-northwest, with Mercury setting about 47 minutes after evening twilight ends.

May 15 will be the evening when the planet Mercury will reach its highest above the horizon as evening twilight ends for this apparition, about 7 degrees above the west-northwestern horizon. Also on May 15, the waxing crescent Moon will appear in the west-northwest to the lower right of Mars, with the pair setting around midnight.

By May 16 into May 17, the waxing crescent Moon will have shifted to appear to the lower left of the bright star Pollux, with the pair setting about 3.5 hours after evening twilight ends (setting around 12:49 a.m. EDT).

Beginning May 19, the bright planet Venus will join Mercury above the horizon in the west-northwest as evening twilight ends. On May 19 into May 20, the waxing half-full Moon will appear above the bright star Regulus, with Regulus setting first early on May 20 at around 2:07 a.m.

On May 23 into May 24, the waxing gibbous Moon will appear about 7 degrees to the left of the bright star Spica, with Spica setting first on May 24 at around 3:52 a.m.

By the evening of Wednesday, May 26, 2021, the day of the full Moon after next, as evening twilight ends (at 9:33 p.m. EDT), the brightest planet visible will be Venus, appearing only 1 degree above the horizon in the west-northwest. To the upper left of Venus will be the planet Mercury, appearing 3 degrees above the horizon. The planet Mars, slightly brighter than Mercury, will appear 23 degrees above the west-northwestern horizon. The constellation Ursa Major, also known as the Big Dipper, will appear in the north close to nearly overhead. No bright star will appear close to overhead, with the closest being Arcturus at 62 degrees above the southeastern horizon.

    Meteor Showers

Several meteor showers will peak during this lunar cycle, although this year conditions do not look promising for seeing these meteors from our area. The annual Lyrid meteor shower is expected to peak early in the morning on Thursday, April 22, 2021. The light of the waxing gibbous Moon will interfere with the visibility of these meteors, which under ideal conditions (which we don't have this year) might be expected to produce about 18 visible meteors per hour.

On the morning of April 22, the Moon will set about 30 minutes before any sign of dawn begins to show in the east at 4:07 a.m. and 4:44 a.m. EDT, respectively, so there will be only a short window without light interference. These meteors are caused by debris from Comet Thatcher entering our atmosphere at 110,000 miles per hour (49 kilometers per second).

Moonlight interference will be even worse for the less predictable Pi-Puppid meteor shower, expected to peak the next morning, Friday, April 23, 2021. These meteors are caused by debris from Comet Grigg–Skjellerup.

The annual Eta-Aquariid meteor shower is expected to be active from April 19 through May 28, peaking the morning of May 6, 2021. From the Southern Hemisphere and under ideal conditions, this meteor shower tends to peak at rates from 40 to 85 visible meteors per hour. However, the Washington area is on the northern edge of the latitudes from which we can see these meteors. This and the relatively short time between the rising of the radiant (the area in the sky from which these meteors appear to radiate out from) and when morning twilight begins will make these meteors hard to see. These meteors are caused by debris from Halley's Comet entering our atmosphere at 148,000 miles per hour (66 kilometers per second).

    Daily Guide

Here is a more detailed, day-by-day listing of celestial events between now and the full Moon after next. Again, times are based on the location of NASA Headquarters in Washington:

    April 20

Tuesday evening, April 20, 2021, will be the first evening that the bright planet Venus will be just barely above the horizon in the west-northwest 30 minutes after sunset (an approximation of when Venus will start becoming visible in the evening sky).

Even though they are not usually visible, I include in these Moon missives information about Near Earth Objects, mostly asteroids, that may pass the Earth within 5 lunar distances, because I find it interesting that we have discovered so many. On Tuesday evening, April 20, 2021, at 10:27 p.m. EDT (2021-Apr-21 02:27 UTC), Near-Earth Object (2021 GJ3), between 152 to 339 feet (46 and 103 meters) across, will pass the Earth at between 3.8 and 3.9 lunar distances (nominally 3.Cool, traveling at 30,100 miles per hour (13.46 kilometers per second).

    April 21-22

Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, April 21 to 22, 2021, the bright star Regulus will appear near the waxing gibbous Moon. Regulus will be about 8 degrees to the lower left as evening twilight ends (at 8:53 p.m.EDT) when the Moon will be near its highest in the sky for the evening. The pair will appear to shift closer together and reach about 6 degrees apart as Regulus sets in the west-northwest Thursday morning at 3:57 a.m.

    April 24

Saturday evening, April 24, 2021, will be the first evening that the planet Mercury will join Venus just barely above the horizon in the west-northwest 30 minutes after sunset (an approximation of when Mercury will start becoming visible in the evening sky).

    April 25-26

Sunday evening into Monday morning, April 25 to 26, 2021, the bright star Spica will appear near the full Moon. As evening twilight ends at 8:58 p.m. EDT the Moon will appear about 27 degrees above the horizon in the east-southeast, with Spica about 7 degrees to the lower right. The Moon will reach its highest in the sky for the night on Monday morning just after midnight at 12:19 a.m., with Spica about 6 degrees below the Moon. As morning twilight begins on Monday morning at 5:14 a.m., the Moon will appear about 9 degrees above the horizon in the west-southwest with Spica about 5 degrees below the Moon.

Sometime in mid-April 2021 (2021-Apr-26 10:36 UTC with 4 days, 17 hours, 5 minutes uncertainty), Near-Earth Object (2015 HA177), between 8 and 17 meters (25 to 56 feet) across, will pass the Earth at between 0.9 and 48.0 lunar distances (nominally 19.2), traveling at 8.75 kilometers per second (19,600 miles per hour).

In late April or early May 2021 (2021-Apr-26 22:23 UTC with 7 days, 20 hours, 11 minutes uncertainty), Near-Earth Object (2019 HF4), between 26 to 59 feet (8 and 18 meters) across, will pass the Earth at between 1.2 and 18.4 lunar distances (nominally 7.7), traveling at 15,100 miles per hour (6.76 kilometers per second).

    April 26

On the morning of Monday, April 26, 2021, as morning twilight begins at 5:14 a.m. EDT, the bright planet Jupiter will appear 18 degrees above the southeastern horizon with the fainter planet Saturn to the upper right at 23 degrees above the southeastern horizon. The bright star appearing nearly overhead will be Vega, one of the three stars in the Summer Triangle, at about 87 degrees above the eastern horizon. Vega is about 25 light-years from Earth and is the 5th brightest star in our night sky. As the lunar cycle progresses, the background of stars and planets will appear to shift towards the west each morning.

As mentioned above, the next full Moon will be on Monday night, April 26, 2021, appearing opposite the Sun at 11:31 p.m. EDT. The Moon will appear full for about 3 days around this time, from Sunday evening through Wednesday morning. Since the Moon will be at its fullest less than 12 hours before perigee (when the Moon is at its closest to the Earth in its orbit), this will be a supermoon.

    April 27

Early on Tuesday morning, April 27, 2021, at about 1:41 a.m. EDT (2021-Apr-27 05:41 UTC with 4 minutes uncertainty), Near-Earth Object (2021 GG11), between 219 to 490 feet (67 and 149 meters) across, will pass the Earth at between 4.7 and 4.8 lunar distances (nominally 4.Cool, traveling at 33,000 miles per hour (14.77 kilometers per second). At 11:23 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, the Moon will be at perigee, its closest to the Earth for this orbit.

    April 28-29

Wednesday night into Thursday morning, April 28 to 29, 2021, the bright star Antares will appear near the waning gibbous Moon. The Moon will rise first in the east-southeast and Antares will rise 29 minutes later at 10:40 p.m. EDT). The Moon will reach its highest in the sky for the night on Thursday morning at 3:10 a.m., near when the Moon and Antares will appear at their closest (about 5 degrees apart). Twilight will begin Thursday morning at 5:09 a.m.

Beginning Thursday evening, April 29, 2021, the planet Mercury will begin appearing above the horizon in the west-northwest as evening twilight ends.

    May 1: May Day

Saturday, May 1, 2021, will be May Day. We currently divide the year into four seasons based upon the solstices and equinoxes, with summer starting on the summer solstice in June. This approximates summer as the quarter of the year with the warmest temperatures. Much of pre-Christian northern Europe celebrated "cross-quarter days" halfway between the solstices and equinoxes, dividing the seasons on these days. Using this older definition, summer was the quarter of the year with the longest daily periods of daylight, starting on Beltane, traditionally celebrated on May 1st (the middle of our spring). Many of the European May Day traditions trace back to these earlier celebrations of the start of summer.

    May 3

Monday morning, May 3, 2021, the planet Saturn will appear to the left of the half-lit Moon. Saturn will appear about 8 degrees to the left of the Moon as the pair rises in the east-southeast at 2:22 a.m. EDT. Saturn will appear about 7 degrees to the upper left of the Moon as morning twilight begins at 5:03 a.m.

Monday afternoon, the waning Moon will appear half-full as it reaches its last quarter at 3:50 p.m. EDT.

    May 4

By Tuesday morning, May 4, 2021, the Moon will have shifted to form a large triangle in the east-southeast with the planets Saturn and Jupiter. Saturn will rise first at 2:17 a.m. EDT. The Moon and Jupiter will rise to the lower left of Saturn at about the same time at 3:01 and 3:02 a.m., with Jupiter about 10 degrees farther to the left of the Moon. The Moon will appear about 18 degrees above the southeastern horizon by the time morning twilight begins at 5:02 a.m.

    May 5

By Wednesday morning, May 5, 2021, the Moon will appear to have shifted to about 6 degrees below Jupiter, rising in the east-southeast at 3:33 a.m. EDT about 1.5 hours before the start of morning twilight at 5:01 a.m., with Saturn appearing farther to the upper right.

    May 11

On Tuesday afternoon, May 11, 2021, at about 1:24 p.m. EDT (2021-May-11 17:24 UTC with 12 minutes uncertainty), Near-Earth Object (2021 GK1), between 33 to 74 feet (10 and 23 meters) across, will pass the Earth at 1.5 lunar distances traveling at 4,500 miles per hour (2.01 kilometers per second).

Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. EDT will be the new Moon, when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun and will not be visible from the Earth. Since this New Moon is near when the Moon is farthest from the Earth in its orbit, some have started using the term "micro-moon" to indicate the opposite of a "supermoon."

Tuesday at 5:54 p.m. EDT, the Moon will be at apogee, its farthest from the Earth for this orbit.

    May 11-12

The day of – or the day after – the New Moon marks the start of the new month for most lunisolar calendars. Sundown on May 11, 2021, marks the start of Sivan in the Hebrew calendar. The fourth month of the Chinese calendar starts on May 12, 2021 (at midnight in China's time zone, which is 12 hours ahead of EDT). In the Islamic calendar, the months start with the first sighting of the waxing crescent Moon after the New Moon. Depending upon whether the crescent Moon is actually seen (for many Muslim communities, seen from the holy city of Mecca), Sundown on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, may mark the start of Shawwal and the end of the holy month of Ramadan. This marks the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan and the start of Eid al-Fitr, a feast that can last up to three days in some countries.

Early on Wednesday evening, May 12, 2021, you might be able to see the very thin, waxing crescent Moon low on the horizon in the west-northwest, appearing to the left of Venus from about 30 minutes after sunset until the pair sets about 5 minutes before evening twilight ends. However, the sky might be too bright and the crescent Moon too thin to see without binoculars or a telescope.

    May 13

Early on Thursday evening, May 13, 2021, the planet Mercury will appear about 3 degrees to the right of the thin, waxing crescent Moon. The pair will appear about 8 degrees above the horizon in the west-northwest as evening twilight ends (at 9:19 p.m. EDT) and Mercury will set first about 47 minutes later at 10:06 p.m. with moonset about 6 minutes later.

    May 15

Saturday evening, May 15, 2021, will be when the planet Mercury will reach its highest above the horizon as evening twilight ends for this apparition, about 7 degrees above the west-northwestern horizon.

Also on Saturday evening, the waxing crescent Moon will appear in the west-northwest to the lower right of the planet Mars, with the pair setting around midnight.

    May 16

By Sunday night, May 16, 2021, the waxing crescent Moon will have shifted to appear to the lower left of the bright star Pollux, with the pair setting about 3.5 hours after evening twilight ends (Monday morning at around 12:49 a.m. EDT)

    May 17

Monday morning, May 17, 2021, will be when the planet Mercury reaches its greatest angular separation from the Sun as seen from the Earth for this apparition (called greatest elongation), appearing half-lit through a large enough telescope. Because the angle of the line between the Sun and Mercury and the horizon changes with the seasons, the date when Mercury and the Sun appear farthest apart as seen from the Earth is not the same as when Mercury appears highest above the horizon as evening twilight ends.

    May 19

On Wednesday afternoon, May 19, 2021, the Moon will appear half-full as it reaches its first quarter at 3:13 p.m. EDT. Beginning Wednesday evening, the bright planet Venus will join Mercury above the horizon in the west-northwest as evening twilight ends.

    May 19-20

On Wednesday night into Thursday morning, May 19 to 20, 2021, the waxing half-full Moon will appear above the bright star Regulus, with Regulus setting first early on Thursday morning at around 2:07 a.m. EDT.

    May 23-24

On Sunday night into Monday morning, May 23 to 24, 2021, the waxing gibbous Moon will appear to the left of the bright star Spica, initially about 7 degrees apart and separating through the night, with Spica setting first on Monday morning at around 3:52 a.m. EDT.

In late May or early June 2021 (2021-May-25 09:26 UTC with 7 days, 17 hours, 11 minutes uncertainty), Near-Earth Object (2013 VO11), between 19 to 43 feet (6 and 13 meters) across, will pass the Earth at between 3.1 and 43.4 lunar distances (nominally 3.4), traveling at 22,800 miles per hour (10.18 kilometers per second).

    May 25

Tuesday night, May 25, 2021, at 9:51 p.m. EDT, the Moon will be at perigee, its closest to the Earth for this orbit.

The full Moon after next will be on Wednesday morning, May 26, 2021, at 7:14 a.m. EDT. Since this is less than 10 hours after the Moon will be at perigee, this will be the closest full supermoon of the year. The Moon will appear full for about 3 days around this time, from Monday evening through Thursday morning.

    Supermoons of 2021

    Defining Supermoons
Full Moon peeking between dark clouds.

Different publications use slightly different thresholds for deciding when a full Moon is close enough to the Earth to qualify as a supermoon.

For 2021, some publications consider the four full Moons from March to June, some the three full Moons from April to June, and some only the two full Moons in April and May as supermoons.

The full Moons in April and May are nearly tied as the closest full Moons of the year. The full Moon on May 26, 2021, will be slightly closer to the Earth than the full Moon on April 26, 2021, but only by a slim 0.04%!

Thousands evacuated in India as strong Cyclone Yaas inches closer
Yaas, set to turn into ‘very severe cyclonic storm’, expected to make landfall on Wednesday in Odisha and West Bengal.

Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated in low-lying areas of two Indian states and moved to cyclone shelters to escape a powerful storm barreling towards the eastern coast.

Cyclone Yaas is set to turn into a “very severe cyclonic storm” with sustained wind speeds of up to 177 kilometres (110 miles) per hour, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday.

The cyclone which comes amid a devastating coronavirus surge complicates India’s efforts to deal with these crises just 10 days after Cyclone Tauktae hit India’s west coast and killed more than 150 people.

At 0830 IST, SCS ‘Yaas’ about 280 km south-southeast of Paradip. — India Meteorological Department (@Indiametdept) May 25, 2021

Thousands of emergency personnel have been deployed in the coastal regions of the two states for evacuation and any possible rescue operations, said SN Pradhan, the director of India’s National Disaster Response Force.

India’s air force and navy were also on standby to carry out relief work.

Fishing trawlers and boats have been told to take shelter until further notice as forecasters warned of high tidal waves.

In West Bengal, authorities were scrambling to move tens of thousands of people to cyclone shelters. Officials said at least 20 districts in the state will feel the brunt of the storm.

Evacuations in coastal districts and the Sundarbans mangrove forest, a UNESCO world heritage site, started on Sunday, West Bengal disaster management minister Javed Ahmed Khan said.

“We have to evacuate nearly half a million people … to schools (and) government offices, which have been turned into cyclone centres to provide shelter to these people,” Khan told the AFP news agency.

In Odisha, a state already battered by coronavirus infections, authorities evacuated nearly 15,000 people living along the coast and moved them to cyclone shelters, senior officer Pradeep Jena said.

In a televised address on Monday, the state’s chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, appealed to people being moved to cyclone shelters to wear double masks and maintain social distancing.
He asked authorities to distribute masks to the evacuated people. “We have to face both the challenges simultaneously,” Patnaik said.

In neighbouring Bangladesh, authorities asked all fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay of Bengal and the deep sea to move closer to the coast ahead of Yaas approaching.

A weather bulletin from the country’s Meteorological Department in Dhaka said that ships should leave maritime ports of Chattogram, Mongla, Cox’s Bazar and Payra.

In Sri Lanka, the weather bureau warned the island nation’s fishermen not to venture into the Bay of Bengal.

“This cyclone spells double trouble for millions of people in India as there is no respite from COVID-19. The country is being slammed by a second enormous cyclone in two weeks and hitting areas where COVID infections and deaths have been at record highs,” Udaya Regmi, the South Asia head of delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said in a statement.

“Indian Red Cross volunteers are working alongside authorities to support the safe evacuation of people who are in the direct path of the cyclone, preparing rafts in case of storm surges and flooding and relief supplies such as food rations,” Regmi said.

Scientists say cyclones in India are becoming more frequent and changing climate patterns have caused them to become more intense.

Last May, nearly 100 people died in Cyclone Amphan, the most powerful storm in more than 10 years to hit eastern India, including West Bengal. It flattened villages, destroyed farms and left millions without power in eastern India and Bangladesh.

In the coastal areas of Bangladesh, thousands of people are still recovering after last year’s Cyclone Amphan, with more than 100,000 still living in temporary shelters, the IFRC said in its statement.

“We haven’t been able to fix the damage to our home from the last cyclone. Now another cyclone is coming, how will we stay here?” said Samitri, who uses only one name.

Queensland power station likely not operational for days after explosion

Investigators work to determine the cause of the blaze as thousands of outages were recorded across the state, south-east Queensland traffic lights and a hospital.

The fire caused chaos across the state from Rockhampton to the Gold Coast, after both units of Callide C tripped just before 2pm, causing instability on the grid.

Instability on the grid also resulted in operating units at Callide B and Stanwell and three units at Gladstone also tripping.

About 260 workers were evacuated from the station and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services established a 550-metre exclusion zone.

“It took out some of the other units which has caused a massive power outage across Queensland.

“These are pretty volatile pieces of equipment and that’s a priority for us to ensure the safety of our members.

“We will be looking for ironclad guarantees around the safety of it for our members before we recommend our members go back into work and what caused it is going to be extremely interesting for us.

“The turbine itself spins at about 3000rpm [rotations per minute], weighs about 80 tonnes, so if that explodes and goes flying – in this case it didn’t occur – but death normally follows that kind of accident, so thankfully no one was injured this time.”

Queensland Ambulance Service said no one was injured during the incident, but multiple QFES and paramedic crews remained on scene until Tuesday night.

Queensland Conservation Council Director Dave Copeman said it was a relief no one was injured in the incident.

“This illustrates the devastating impact that relying on large, geographically concentrated thermal coal units can have, particularly as they age,” he said.

“The piece of infrastructure transmission operators most needed when this failure occurred was a large scale battery.

“It could have been delivering power to support the grid within seconds, and may have prevented the wider network failures.”

Energy Minister Mick de Brenni said the Australian Energy Market Operator had been advised the issue should be resolved by 9.30pm.

“The best way to ensure this is done as quickly as possible is to conserve energy use,” he said.

After the frost, fruit and vegetable producers now have to deal with the rain. In the Moselle, producers cannot plant anything and delays are accumulating.

According to Vincent Neveux, producer in Norroy-le-Veneur, “Two days without rain are needed for the soil to be dry enough. At this pace, all the vegetables are going to arrive at the same time on the shelves, in large quantities.”

Nearly 4,000 plants are already in storage. In order to avoid any loss, the producer has put his lettuce, celeriac and celery plants in a dark and dry place so that they do not grow too fast.

In Peltre, the strawberry harvest, already delayed by three weeks, is suffering from the lack of sun and the cold temperatures. “We are worried about the sun not coming out,” explains producer Vincent Tillement. “Already, the first strawberries clearly have less sugar and less flavor.”

Ireland - Heavy rain and hail disrupts crops

All over Europe the weather has been unseasonal for the last couple of months, cold and dry in April and then very wet throughout May.

Ireland has been no exception, with 64mm of rain falling in four days last week and before that localised but very severe hail.

“We lost 10 hectares of crops, mainly spinach and baby leaf,” said Stephen McCormack from McCormack Family farms in Co. Meath. “It was bad but very localised and our other farms were all fine, so I was relieved.”

Record-breaking heat wave strikes Pacific Northwest, causing power outages
    June 28,2021

A heat wave hit the Pacific Northwest, and stores sold out of portable air conditioners and fans. Many cities have opened cooling centers. Portland, Oregon, reached 112 degrees Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, beating its previous record of 108, set on Saturday. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport broke its previous daily record by 12 degrees Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, reaching an all-time high of 102.

Comments: We’re watching for the water here in AZ because we’re hoping the monsoons aren’t going to turn into the “non-soons” like last year. Worst year I’ve seen in 15 with almost zero rain. We were supposed to have heavy thunderstorms and minor flooding nearly every day for a few weeks. Haven’t seen that for several years. We’re going to need those old-fashioned deluges to cool down temps and tempers when the audit results come out.

Unfortunately, the folks in the Pacific Northwest are not equipped to handle the temperatures they’re getting. Without power, they can’t even run a table top or floor fan unless they have a generator. See why we told everyone to prepare for anything they can conceive could happen?

CANADA TURNS INTO DEATH VALLEY: 121-DEGREES!
    https://news.yahoo.com/scores-dead-heat-wave-grips-222446237.html

Scores dead as record-breaking heat wave grips Canada, USScores dead as record-breaking heat wave grips Canada, US

Scores of deaths in Canada's Vancouver area are likely linked to a grueling heat wave, authorities said Tuesday, as the country recorded its highest ever temperature amid scorching conditions that extended to the US Pacific Northwest.

At least 134 people have died suddenly since Friday in the Vancouver area, according to figures released by the city police department and the Royal Canadian Mounted police.

The Vancouver Police Department alone said it had responded to more than 65 sudden deaths since Friday, with the vast majority "related to the heat."

Canada set a new all-time high temperature record for a third day in a row Tuesday, reaching 121 degrees Fahrenheit (49.5 degrees Celsius) in Lytton, British Columbia, about 155 miles (250 kilometers) east of Vancouver, the country's weather service, Environment Canada, reported.

"Vancouver has never experienced heat like this, and sadly dozens of people are dying because of it," police sergeant Steve Addison said.

Other local municipalities have said they too have responded to many sudden death calls, but have yet to release tolls.

Some Vancouver locals said they had never experienced such temperatures before.

"It's never this bad. I've never seen anything like this," said a Vancouver resident who only gave her name as Rosa.

"I hope it never becomes like this ever again. This is too much."

Others lamented that some residents were more vulnerable to the heat than others.

"I feel for those people whether they're the elderly demographic or people who live on the downtown eastside of Vancouver who don't have a cool spot to live or sleep," said river swimmer Graham Griedger.

Climate change is causing record-setting temperatures to become more frequent. Globally, the decade to 2019 was the hottest recorded, and the five hottest years have all occurred within the last five years.

The scorching heat stretching from the US state of Oregon to Canada's Arctic territories has been blamed on a high-pressure ridge trapping warm air in the region.

    Blackout Southern Oregon

Power just came back on, out for close to an hour on the hottest day ever or whatever... for about an hour (just enough time to dig XXXX out of mothballs to put it back again) , starting at 9:00 pm (thought the timing was strange as it seems all the businesses would be closed, etc.? maybe everyone suddenly online, TV, cooking dinner, laundry, etc?)

More that the 16,000 listed here, it was all of Ashland, Talent, Phoenix and South Medford- to include the biggest hospital in the region.

    https://www.kdrv.com/content/news/Over-16000-people-without-power-in-Medford-Phoenix-area-574722981.html

MEDFORD, Ore. — More than 30,000 Pacific Power customers in Jackson County lost power Sunday evening amid record-setting temperatures across much of Oregon.

The outage began shortly after 9 p.m. Though initial estimates for the outage's extent were much lower, Pacific Power eventually reported that 30,062 customers lost power.

This is largely the same area that was hit with fire last summer- it feels like a 'slow kill' going down here... doom

LAVA FIRE EXPLODES TO MORE THAN 13,000 ACRES, PUSHED BY STRONG WINDS

Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service says flight mapping will take place Tuesday night to get more accurate new acreage for the Lava Fire.

    Posted: Jun 29, 2021 9:28 AM
    https://www.kdrv.com/content/news/Lava-Fire-explodes-to-more-than-13000-acres-pushed-by-strong-winds-574733191.html

The Lava Fire exploded in size throughout Monday, fueled by strong and erratic winds amid record heat. Fire officials confirmed that the fire made a significant run to the north, crossing Highway 97 and frustrating attempts by fire crews to keep the fire hemmed in south of that line.

The fire is now estimated at 13,330 acres as of Monday morning, with containment remaining at 20 percent.

Based on the latest map provided by fire officials, the fire's northward expansion narrowly missed the Lake Shastina community — passing it just to the east — but brought flames to the outskirts of the Mount Shasta Vista subdivision. The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office said that they did not know "what structures have burned down" or the current status of many areas.

During Monday's activity, the Sheriff's Office issued evacuation orders for a number of areas, starting with residents on the north side of Hoy Road, north along Highway 97 to County Road A-12, and the communities of Lake Shastina and Juniper Valley off Big Springs Road from Highway 97 to McDonald Lane on both east and west sides of Big Springs Road.

Within an hour, the agency issued a second round of mandatory evacuations covering the Mount Shasta Vista Subdivision, County Road A-12 north and south, Harry Cash Road, and 4 Corners to Hart Road.

Highway 97 is now closed from I-5 in Weed all the way to the Oregon border near Dorris, according to Caltrans.

The Lava Fire was originally one of four fires sparked by last week's thunderstorms. Though fire crews managed to quickly find and contain the other three, the Lava Fire continued to grow within the rough, rocky terrain about 3.5 miles northeast of Weed and southeast of Lake Shastina.

On Sunday morning the fire was mapped at 220 acres with 25 percent containment, but it continued to spread rapidly amid the record heat. As of Monday morning, officials said that the fire covered roughly 1,446 acres with 20 percent containment.

Officials remain concerned about the very low humidity levels, extreme heat, and strong breezes in the fire area, which all could provoke further rapid spread.

The intense Portland heat has caused streets and sidewalks to buckle.

Records smashed again: Portland infrastructure crumbles under 116-degree heat
Roads buckled, power cables melted and pools forced to close. As one Portland other pondered, "who would have thought we’d come to a day when it’s too hot to swim?"

Three days, three records. For the third consecutive day, the high-temperature page of Portland's record book will need a rewrite.

Portland has been at the epicenter of a record-shattering heat wave that has been sending temperatures soaring to previously unimaginable levels across the northwestern United States and western Canada. Among the victims left in the heat wave's wrath have been stricken residents, buckled streets and melted power cables.

Little relief has been offered even at night, and the city had record warmth on Tuesday morning by dropping only to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, almost 20 degrees above average.

The city continued its streak of searing heat Monday, setting a new all-time record high temperature in the process.

The day's highest mark reached 116 degrees Fahrenheit, breaking the one-day-old record of 112 set Sunday. That had broken the anything-but-ageless record of 108 set Saturday. However, prior to that, the all-time high truly did seem untouchable, as no day had touched the previous record of 107 F since August 1981.

For a city that typically sees average highs top out in the low 80s during the year's hottest months, in July and August, this June blast of heat was never something many in the city could have imagined.

The city's infrastructure and operations are a testament to that.

On Monday, power cables supporting streetcars in Portland were stretched to the extreme, melting in some areas.

Less than 50 miles south of Portland, the city of Salem, Oregon, posted the day's highest temperature, hitting a new all-time high of 117 degrees. For reference, Las Vegas has never recorded a day warmer than that.

On such a hot day, even cold conditions can become dangerous for those looking to cool off in rivers or streams.

The shock from cold water, as low as 50 degrees, presented a risk to even the most experienced swimmer, Robert McDonald told AccuWeather National Reporter Bill Wadell.

McDonald, operations manager with AMR, told Wadell that he was proud of the EMS response in the area, which has helped save lives as more than a dozen people were rushed to the hospital with heat illnesses Monday.

"This was a big turn for EMS in the region, but I gotta tell you that I applaud most everyone that’s participated," he said. "I applaud our crews, they have done an amazing job in what can only be called an austere event. It’s hot and difficult out there."

The Oregon Health Authority reported a total of 506 heat-related visits to emergency departments and urgent care centers over the past four days, according to CNN, and at least 251 visits occurred on Monday.

Across Oregon, authorities have speculated that the heat played a role in at least seven deaths.

One employee at Ernst Nursery and Farms had been found unresponsive in the field at the end of his shift, an agency spokesperson told The Associated Press. The man, whose name was not released, had been working on a crew moving irrigation lines.

Another four deaths in Puget Sound City may have also been due to the heat, according to officials in Bremerton, Washington, though the city's medical examiner told the Kitsap Sun that firefighters cannot say definitively whether heat was the cause of death, the AP reported. Authorities in Bend, Oregon, have said that the deaths of two people without housing may have also been de to the extreme heat.

The heat wasn't any less brutal in Washington where at least 676 people visited emergency departments for heat-related symptoms from Friday into Sunday. Spokesperson for the Washington State Department of Health Cory Portner told CNN that 81 of those cases led to inpatient admissions.

One group directly stricken by heat illnesses has been pool lifeguards. The Portland Parks and Recreation Department announced the closing of public pools on Monday after multiple lifeguards experienced heat-related illnesses on Sunday.

Nicola Biello, 9, was hoping to cool off at a Portland pool on Monday, but found the gates locked after multiple lifeguards had suffered heat-related illnesses over the weekend. (AccuWeather/Bill Wadell)

For Gena Biello and her 9-year-old daughter Nicola, that meant having to make a change of plans. Gena considered the safety of the lifeguards as they were driving to the pool, but told Wadell that she was just hoping the pool would be open for her own family's sake of cooling off.

"I thought that it does kind of make sense because the lifeguards would be really hot, but it’s also a little bit of a bummer that the pool’s not open," Nicola said.

    Her mom agreed.

"Ironically enough, who would have thought we’d come to a day when it’s too hot to swim?" Gena said. "That’s where we’re at now."

Portland, Oregon's average summer temperature has trended upwards over the past several decades. (Climate Central)

As the week progresses, families like the Biellos may need to continue finding alternative methods to stay cool. AccuWeather meteorologists forecast the gripping heat to linger through Thursday.

Though the Northwest heat’s rage may soften slightly enough to allow the ink on the record books to dry, the unusually high temperatures will still remain in place, including well beyond the Fourth of July.

“In fact, record-challenging temperatures are likely to persist east of the Cascades and throughout western Canada into the early days of July,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Renee Duff wrote. “High temperatures can still soar close to 20 degrees above normal each day for many locations from the middle of the week onward.”

    Perhaps I am making 1+1=3

    but...

i did notice they just switched HAARP back on (officially that is)

    and soon after..

record numbers of homing pigeons go missing across Europe..

many birds are dropping dead for some reason (virus or HAARP?)

record high temperatures from 'nowhere' (to fuel their climate change agenda)..

    curious eh? Rolling Eyes

Most likely HAARP. Weather wars are ongoing world-wide with Russia and China flooding.

Wow, that was uplifting Crying or Very sad and there is a whole playlist of disaster..(actually the link to the playlist doesnt work)

i had hoped it was from a few years back, but published recently !

well. if I am not washed away, at least I wont be too cold..And i get to visit the new Atlantis..

interestingly... (for me).. I needed to mark out some land boundaries a couple of weeks back. I knew the magnetic pole was shifting.. so i checked local current declination, to be told there was no declination in my area!  But my compass (top of the range, marine spec) was showing at least a 10 degree variance vs what the maps were telling me.. in the end i had to work out the borders relative to other borders, I couldnt rely on my compass bearing...

yet the web page shows no declination.. ?? i did find it curious / odd and just assumed they were deliberately hiding the wandering magnetic field..

I hadnt linked the pigeon loss to it.. again, i presumed HAARP as they made a big deal out of grounding aircraft in the vicinity.. and mad weather etc ensued..

at least it makes the plandemic irrelevant..

I've been aware of the pole shift potentialities for a good dozen years Vidya.. and of the probably sol flare kill shot described by Dr. Doom aka Major Ed Dames for a good 25 years. Then of course there was Nibaru's passing that according to Gene DeCode did happen in 2019 where it would seem the pole shift would have happened at that time. So the only thing that seems real these days, setting aside speculations, is the sun still rises and sets. Each day reveals its own unique mysteries. And to enjoy the gifts of nature.

We originally moved to our current location (one of the safe zones described in one book) by serendipity. God's plan at work behind the scenes. It's so ironic how life has played out these past few dozen years. We do what we can to plan for the future while the future unfolds in its own good time, in its own way. I often wonder how humankind would have evolved with out the evil ones handiwork undermining humanities human spirit at every twist and turn. Yet the human spirit is amazing. So much creativity doing work-arounds against those elements who would destroy all that is good.

This past winter with the sub-zero temperatures I would envision Spring, green grass and leaved out Maple trees along with warm days. In the region we live in warm days are to be treasured as we ofter can have below freezing temps at night throughout the year. Now we're experience triple digit temps for the first time in history for this area this early in the year. The sun and radiation was so intense that it literally burned my green bell pepper in one afternoon and destroyed all my aloe plants. Just one afternoon of sun and poof.

We keep the spring fed sprinkler on the keep the grass green and reduce fire hazard close to the house. And were out cleaning up some of the dead pine tree branches to be hauled away. All camp fires, fires, of any sort have been stopped given the current fire danger. I can't grow anything in the sun given what's been going on with how it burns so the shade is the only hope. Given the short growing season and extremes in weather temps having an outdoor garden isn't easy. Then of course we have deer and other wildlife on a daily basis so a green house may be the answer for growing food outdoors.

Personally I have no clue as to what's next climate wise or anything else. And even though it is currently hot, hot, hot outside - at least it's not fricking freezing cold like it is for at least 6 months out of the year here. This summer weather reminds me more like Southern California. Only our friends down there are saying temps are in triple digits with rolling electrical back outs and no relief from the heat. Other family members in Arizona talk about the heat wave as well. Triple digit temps up here in the mountains are rare. Pretty much all of the snow at the 9 thousand foot level has melted with what has happened this past week. This is ranching country in the lower foothills too with cattle all in the grazing areas. There is likely to be a severe water shortage by the end of summer. We've had less than 3 inches of rain this year. Also unusual. There is the predicted thunder storms.. but really little rain.  So I worry about the cattle and the wild life.

With hight temps predicted over the next several days, it's time to put the lawn chairs out in the sprinkler to cool off. The 4th of July fireworks will be shot off over the lake Saturday evening. The only safe spot in the area to enjoy fireworks. Most likely hundreds of people will show up like they do year after year to watch. I think we counted over a thousand vehicles last year. We just hope no one is stupid enough to light up camp fires or light off their own fireworks anywhere in the area given how high the fire danger is with the current weather conditions. Time to pray for everyones safety and keep prayers going.

Gene DeCode talks of timelines converging. Hmm? Summertime... hot in more ways than one.

14 Astonishing Facts About The Blistering Heatwave That Is Absolutely Frying The Northwest Right Now

    6/29/21
What we are witnessing right now is not even close to “normal”. I know that I have been making a lot of statements like that lately, but it is undeniable that some very strange things are happening. For example, over the past couple of years I have been consistently warning that global weather patterns were starting to go completely nuts, and at first there were some people that didn’t believe me. But now nobody can deny that global weather patterns have become really, really weird.

Sweltering heatwave linked to sudden deaths in western Canada and US Northwest

At this moment, the Northwest is being slammed by a “heat dome” that is absolutely unprecedented. In the past, there have been times when the weather has gotten really hot and a city or two may set a new high temperature record for a particular date, but this week we are seeing city after city shatter their all-time records for hottest temperature ever recorded on any date. We have never seen anything like this before, and hopefully this does not become “the new normal”.

The following are 14 astonishing facts about the blistering heatwave that is absolutely frying the Northwest right now…

#1 According to CBS News, this heatwave is “more rare than a once in a 1,000 year event”…

The heat wave baking the U.S. Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, Canada, is of an intensity never recorded by modern humans. By one measure it is more rare than a once in a 1,000 year event — which means that if you could live in this particular spot for 1,000 years, you’d likely only experience a heat dome like this once, if ever.

#2 CBS News Meteorologist Jeff Berardelli is reporting that there is only a “1/10,000+ chance” that a heat dome of this magnitude could form over the Northwest…

To put climate extremes into perspective we measure against the average. The sigma is the standard deviation of a normal distribution of expected values. In this case the heat dome sigma max is 4.4 – that means it’s outside of 99.99% of expected values or a 1/10,000+ chance

#3 The hottest temperature ever recorded in Portland, Oregon prior to this heatwave was 107 degrees. On Saturday, the high temperature in the city was 108.

#4 On Sunday, the high temperature in Portland reached 112 degrees. That broke the all-time record that was set just the day before by 4 degrees.

#5 Conditions were so hot in Portland on Sunday that it was actually “melting streetcar power cables”.

#6 It was being projected that the high temperature in Portland would hit 113 degrees on Monday. That would be the third day in a row that a new all-time record was set.

#7 Prior to this heatwave, the hottest that it had ever been in Eugene, Oregon was 108 degrees. On Sunday, the high temperature was 111 degrees.

#8 Prior to this heatwave, the hottest that it had ever been in Salem, Oregon was 108 degrees. On Sunday, the high temperature was 113 degrees.

#9 Prior to this heatwave, the hottest that it had ever been in Vancouver, Washington was 108 degrees. On Sunday, the high temperature was 112 degrees.

#10 Things were cooler in Seattle, but the Emerald City still hit a brand new all-time record high temperature of 104 degrees on Sunday.

#11 On Monday, it was being projected that the high temperature in Seattle would reach 111 degrees. That would break the new all-time record that was set on Sunday by 7 full degrees.

#12 In Everson, Washington the weather is so hot that it is causing sidewalks and roads to warp and buckle…

In Everson, Washington, located about 100 miles north of Seattle, the heat proved so extreme that roads and sidewalks buckled. State officers shared photos of the cracked roadways, which rendered the streets unsafe and caused detours.

In Yakima, located in the southeastern portion of the state, other Twitter users shared photos of sidewalks buckling under the heat and popping out of the ground.

#13 What most people living in other parts of the country don’t realize is that millions upon millions of people living in the Northwest do not have any air conditioning. In fact, even in Seattle the percentage of people with air conditioning is “well under 50%”…

Dr. Kristie Ebi, a professor at the University of Washington, told AccuWeather National Reporter Bill Wadell that she was particularly concerned for high-risk residents of the area, such as the elderly.

“We’re well under 50% of people who have access to air conditioning,” she said. “I was quite surprised a couple of years ago when we had a heat wave…I was the only one who had air conditioning, no one else did.”

#14 Incredibly, the weather is even hotter north of the border. On Sunday, the city of Lytton in British Columbia actually recorded the hottest temperature in the history of Canada…

On Sunday, Lytton, British Columbia, recorded the highest temperature ever in Canada’s history as the thermometer soared to 116 F (46.6 C). The previous record for all of Canada was 113 F (45 C), set on July 5, 1937, in Midale and Yellowgrass, Saskatchewan.

This is completely and totally removed from any definition of “normal” that you would like to come up with.

Over the past few years, we have been witnessing unprecedented low temperatures, unprecedented high temperatures, unprecedented storms, unprecedented droughts and unprecedented natural disasters all over the world.

Our leaders insist that we can make this all go away if we just change our approach to the environment, but they are dead wrong.

The truth is that our entire planet is dramatically changing, and what we have experienced so far is just the beginning.

Weather conditions are expected to remain very hot throughout the rest of the summer here in the United States, and very hot weather usually means a high level of violence in our cities.

Sadly, that is exactly what is happening, and this past weekend in Chicago was particularly bloody…

Even after for months running Chicago has typically seen many consecutive weekends with some 40 shootings every Saturday and Sunday, this weekend’s numbers have reached truly staggering new heights, with at least 77 people shot by Sunday night, including five killed.

Local Chicago news has noted further that seven of the surviving victims are minors of 17-years old or younger. From Saturday night, news of shootings came in so rapidly that police and reporters struggled to keep a tally, with Chicago PD citing 55 wounded across the city by Sunday evening.

Unfortunately, everyone agrees that a whole lot more violence is coming.

Our entire society is in the process of melting down all around us, and bizarre weather is not going to help matters.

But for now, the mainstream media continues to tell everyone that everything is going to turn out just fine somehow, and so most people are still deep in a state of blissful denial.

Does anyone know how Jenetta is coping? She lives in British Columbia. Being a worrier, I've tried PMing her to see how she is, with no response. Is anyone else in contact with her and knows how she is? Neutral
