    Storms 'have changed coastline forever'

London (AFP) - The huge storms and powerful winds that have battered the coast of Britain in recent weeks have caused years' worth of erosion and damage, authorities said on Friday.

On some stretches of coast, the extreme weather has stripped away sand from stretches of beaches to reveal ancient forests, leaving the stumps of 6,000-year-old oaks protruding.

The National Trust, which manages much of the country's most scenic coastline, said the storms have caused problems that it did not expect to have to deal with for years.

Cliffs have crumbled, beaches and sand dunes have been eroded, heavy seas have breached defences and shorelines and harbours have been damaged.

At Birling Gap on the Sussex coast, a popular tourist spot, the speed of erosion has been "breathtaking", according to Jane Cecil, the National Trust general manager for the area.

"We've had about seven years of erosion in just two months. As a result of this loss of coastline, we are having to act now and take down the sun lounge and ice cream parlour, safeguarding the integrity of the rest of the building.

Winter storm buries parts of northeast; death toll at 25
February 15, 2014 – PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. East Coast dug out on Friday from the final wallop of a deadly four-day storm that dumped more than two feet of snow in some places, causing chaos from the South to New England. Five more people were killed on icy roads or while shoveling snow in North Carolina, bringing the storm’s death toll to at least 25. In New York, doctors were working to save the baby of a pregnant 36-year-old woman killed by a private snow plow in a parking lot in Brooklyn. The Pennsylvania Turnpike was littered with twisted metal from up to 50 vehicles in multiple accidents that injured at least 30 people. The road had to be closed during the morning commute, causing a 7-mile (11-km) backup, said Renee Vid Colborn, a spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. “It was a chain reaction,” Vid Colborn said of two massive crashes involving up to 25 vehicles each. None of the injuries was life threatening, she said. Blue skies and temperatures in the 40s in the New York City area on Friday belied a previous night of unusual thunder snow and electrical storm in New Jersey.

A bolt of lightning struck a Spirit Airlines plane flying from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but it was able to land safely at its destination, Atlantic City International Airport, said airline spokesman Jim Lynde. “Thunder snow is just a reflection of how intense that storm was and how hard the snowfall rate was,” said Chris Vaccaro, spokesman for the National Weather Service. Snowfall measured 28.5 inches in Pilot, Virginia, about 200 miles west of Richmond, Vaccaro said. A new storm system from the central Plains was on its way Friday, expected to dump up to 3 inches on the East Coast into Saturday of the Presidents Day holiday weekend, he said. Heavy snow in and around New York City, Boston and Philadelphia, caused some schools to be closed for a second unplanned day on Friday. “You can fly in the air!” squealed kindergartner Jack Mension, 6, while sledding in Philadelphia’s Clark Park on his second canceled school day due to weather. Some parents were not as thrilled as they scrambled to find child-care and school administrators were looking at how best to make up lost classroom time by extending school into the summer. About 1,400 U.S. flights were canceled and roughly 2,400 more were delayed by midday on Friday, said flight-tracking website FlightAware.com. The weather also slowed business for flower shops banking on a big day of deliveries on Friday for Valentine’s Day. –Reuters

Atlantic storm brings more flood misery to drenched Britain: heaviest rainfall in 250 years
February 14, 2014 – BRITAIN – Princes William and Harry rolled up their sleeves Friday to help out with flood defense efforts as Britain braces for another hammering Friday from a major storm off the Atlantic. The princes showed up at 6 a.m. local time in the flood-hit village of Datchet, west of London. The community is one of several in Berkshire and Surrey to have been hit by flooding in recent days after the River Thames burst its banks. Nearly 6,000 homes have been inundated along the Thames Valley and elsewhere following England’s wettest January in 2½ centuries. A car dealership’s display model sits on a ramp above floodwaters in Datchet, England, on Monday, February 10. Britain has been hit by bad weather since early December, and swaths of southwestern England have been flooded in continuously stormy weather. Some communities in low-lying areas of Somerset, in southwest England, have been under water since December. And there’s no letup in sight just yet. The Environment Agency has warned of more flooding along the Thames over the weekend as the river reaches its highest level in 60 years. A powerful Atlantic storm that is blowing in on Friday will add to people’s woes. It comes only two days after a storm blasted western Wales and northwest England, as well as parts of Ireland, with gale-force winds. Some 450,000 properties were affected by power outages as a result of Wednesday’s storm. Only 16,000, almost all of them in Wales, were still without power Friday morning, according to the Energy Networks Association, but high winds could cause new problems.

The severe weather has affected travel, with many trains delayed or canceled. A sea wall under one coastal section on the main rail line to the southwest collapsed after high seas pummeled it. There were 18 severe flood warnings, meaning a danger to life, in place Friday, most of them in southeast England. Warnings of high winds are also in place for parts of southern England. In the past few days, more than 1,000 homes have been flooded in well-heeled communities along the Thames Valley, including Maidenhead and Windsor, where Queen Elizabeth has a castle. The Environment Agency warned the area could expect “widespread flooding affecting significant numbers of properties and whole communities and significant disruption to travel” in the coming days. Central London has been protected from flooding by the Thames Barrier, which prevents high tides surging up the tidal river when it is already full. The Met Office, the UK’s national weather service, said the recent series of winter storms “has been exceptional in its duration, and has led to the wettest December to January period in the UK since records began.” But it’s not yet able to say whether climate change is a factor in the extreme weather, as some observers have suggested. “As yet, there is no definitive answer on the possible contribution of climate change to the recent storminess, rainfall amounts and the consequent flooding. This is in part due to the highly variable nature of UK weather and climate,” it said. -CNN

Tokyo pummeled by second major snow storm in a week: worst in 45 years
February 14, 2014 – JAPAN – Heavy snow fell on Tokyo for the second this time week, forcing some companies to cancel work and send their employees home. Nissan Motor Co.’s Yokohama office asked its employees to head home early because snow has already impeded plane and railway services. The Japan Meterological Agency said to prepare for as much as 10 centimeters, or 4 inches, of snowfall within the next 24 hours in Tokyo. Just last weekend, a record 24 centimeters of snow fell on the Japanese capital. Broadcasting company NHK reported that the amount of snow over the weekend was worst snowfall to hit the city in 45 years. Train and plane services were paralyzed because of the snow, leaving many commuters stranded. While ANA Holdings Inc. and Japan Airlines Co., had to cancel 138 domestic and international flights, while six lines from the East Japan Railway Co. were stopped from running. On the other hand, bullet trains such as those from Central Japan Railway Co. were only delayed for up to 50 minutes, as wells as lines from West Japan Railway Co.

Due to the cancellation of 63 domestic flights by ANA, around 9,500 passengers were rendered helpless by the storm, according to Ryosei Nomura of ANA. The heavy snowfall also forced the closure of a runway at Nagoya airport because of the thick ice on the ground. Chris Keefe from Nissan Motor Co. asked employees to leave by 12:30 p.m on Friday because of the dangers heavy snowfall pose, such as slipping off the icy ground, lack of transportation, and roads closed to traffic because it’s rendered impassable. –Japan Daily Press

Blizzard to lash New England this weekend
    Earth Changes 2013 - Daily Updates - Page 5 650x366_02141429_hd12
February 14, 2014 – NEW YORK – Into the first part of the weekend, light to moderate snow will push from the Ohio Valley to the Mid-Atlantic States, but a blizzard is forecast to develop in eastern New England. The storm has the potential to bring a new round of ground and airline disruptions to parts of the South and East that were hit with the winter storm at midweek and also to some places that escaped the storm in the Midwest. The storm is forecast to remain rather weak along most of its journey. However, it could bring just enough snow to treat, shovel and plow from parts of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio to much of Kentucky and Tennessee into Friday afternoon. Motorists are advised to exercise caution this evening along Interstates 64, 65, 71 and 75 in Kentucky as temperatures falling below freezing can make for icy travel. Similar conditions in southeastern Pennsylvania early this morning contributed to a multiple vehicle accident on the Turnpike, north of Philadelphia.

The storm brought between 1 and 4 inches over a large part of Iowa and northern Missouri early Friday and was heading across central Illinois toward Indiana during the midday Friday. St. Louis received a wintry mix. A swath of snow will affect portions of North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and New York during part of Friday night. A couple of inches could fall on parts of these states with locally higher amounts. The snow could conceal patches of ice beneath. On the southern edge of the storm, rain and also a wintry mix may fall in part of middle Tennessee, northern Alabama, northern Georgia, central North Carolina and central Virginia. Just enough could fall to make roads in some communities slippery once again. This storm is likely to strengthen upon nearing the coast. As this happens, more substantial snow-related problems may begin to unfold. Major cities that have the best chance at receiving a period or two of accumulating snow from the new storm include Peoria, Ill., Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Knoxville, Tenn., Charleston, W.Va., Roanoke, Va., Pittsburgh, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston. Despite the piling on nature of the storms of late, there is light at the end of the tunnel for warm weather fans and parents dealing with loss of work when kids have an excess number of snow days. –Accuweather

I'm not surprised after scrolling through the past few weeks. The tilt of the planet has altered, the north pole has shifted, the seems to be a number of gamma ray bursts from various areas in space impacting the planet heating up the core moving magma toward the planet's surface which increase both earthquake and volcanic activity. Add to that all of the tons of ash ejected into the upper atmosphere and that cools the surface of the planet down. Some cyclic and some (chemtrails) man made.

I was stranded on the east coast for an extra week waiting for the weather to shift as one flight after another was cancelled. When I landed in Chicago it was 11 degrees and looked like Alaska. When texting a friend living in the area he said Alaska was warmer. Now I'm in Payson and it's cold here too.. but the buds on the rose bush are showing.. then there will be a hard freeze in a few weeks and the poor plant starts all over again.

Unfortunately the new normal appears to be abnormal.

Great to see you made it safely Carol. Welcome back  cheers

Here in Belgium we hardly had any winter. As in Poland buds are opening and a first flower opened up on my balcony. Considering the severe weather that appeared in other parts of the globe , even not that far from belgium in England, I feel like being on a safe island these days.

12 Signs That Something Big Is Happening To The Earth’s Crust Under North And South America

    March 31, 2014

Why are fault lines and volcanoes all over North and South America suddenly waking up? Are we moving into a time when major earthquakes and volcanic eruptions will become much more common? For the past several decades, we have been extremely fortunate to have experienced a period of extremely low seismic activity along the west coast of the United States. You see, the west coast lies right along the infamous Ring of Fire.

    Image: Andes, Chile (Wiki Commons).

Approximately 75 percent of all the volcanoes in the world are on the Ring of Fire, and approximately 90 percent of all global earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire. Scientists tell us that it is inevitable that “the Big One” will hit California someday, but people have gotten very apathetic about this because things have been so quiet out there for so many years. Well, now it appears that things are changing in a big way – and not just along the California coast. The following are 12 signs that something big is happening to the earth’s crust under North and South America…

#1 The 5.1 earthquake that shook Los Angeles on Friday was the worst earthquake that the city had seen in many years.

#2 Following that earthquake, there were more than 100 aftershocks.

#3 A 4.1 earthquake shook Los Angeles on Saturday. Scientists are hoping that this earthquake swarm in southern California will end soon.

#4 Earlier this month, a 4.4 earthquake rattled Los Angeles so badly that it caused news anchors to dive under their desks.

#5 A 6.9 earthquake just off the coast of northern California in early March was the largest earthquake to hit the west coast of the United States since 2010.

#6 Up in Oregon, Mt. Hood recently experienced more than 100 earthquakes over the course of just a few days.

#7 During the past month, there have also been some other very unusual geologic events that have been happening up in Oregon…

Two large landslides – one in the Columbia River Gorge dumped about 2,000 cubic yards of rock and debris on highway I84 just 3 miles west of the Hood River, and another blocked US30 near Portland.

Loud booms and ground shaking reported by people from Lincoln to Tillamook Counties; some reported hearing a rumble, as well (No earthquakes recorded by the USGS in the area at the time.)

A 20 ft. deep sinkhole swallowed a woman and her dog in her Portland backyard.

#8 A 4.8 earthquake rattled Yellowstone National Park on Sunday, and there have been at least 25 earthquakes at Yellowstone since Thursday.

#9 Scientists recently discovered that the Yellowstone supervolcano is now releasing far more helium gas than they had anticipated.

#10 Over the past month, there have been more than 130 earthquakes in the state of Oklahoma. This is highly unusual.

#11 There have been several dozen earthquakes in Peru over the past month, including a 6.3 earthquake that made headlines all over the globe.

#12 Earlier this month, the northern coast of Chile was hit by more than 300 earthquakes in a seven day stretch. 41 of those earthquakes were stronger than magnitude 4.5.

Fortunately, the quake that hit Los Angeles on Friday did not cause too much lasting injury. But it sure did shake people up. The following is how the Los Angeles Times described the damage…

Global Cooling - The REAL Inconvenient Truth: Part 1

Three months ago, it snowed in Cairo, Egypt for the first time in 112 years.

2013 was the largest one-year temperature drop ever recorded in the United States.

The extent of the Antarctic sea ice is at record highs.

    Earth Changes 2013 - Daily Updates - Page 5 GlobalCooling-snow-in-Cairo
    .

It’s the Real Inconvenient Truth—right now the world is getting colder. And it’s likely to get even colder for the next 20 years—before a new, stronger cycle of sunspots begins, as they have for eons. They are statistically very, VERY accurate.

But there’s more, and it’s A Sad Truth: there is ample evidence that suggests private scientists and public servants have been manipulating the basic raw data that most everyone relies on to calculate climate change. (This story has great timing as the IPCC–International Panel on Climate Change–just released Part 5 of their most recent major assessment on climate science (even they can’t bring themselves to call it Global Warming anymore).)

There are some investment trends that come out of this new Truth, and some of it is as simple as get long snowmobile makers and get short lawn mowers. One trend is that Global Cooling should bring more seasonality in oil and gas prices, making energy ETF and commodity traders happy.

All of this is part of a new ground-breaking study completed by Unit Economics, an investment think-tank from Boston. They are a non-partisan group with no axe to grind on this issue; like me, they are here to make money for their clients. Show us a trend and we’ll figure out how to profit from it.

In Part I, you’ll understand the big swings in temperature the earth has experienced in the last million years, and the last thousand years, and the last 50 years. In Part II I’ll explain how sunspot activity directly correlates to ALL these temperature changes. And I’ll give you a hot, near-term investment trend to capitalize on this cool idea.

And in Part III, I’ll show you how some original research by Unit Economics has uncovered some disturbing data about the integrity of Global Warming science. And really, all they’re doing is adding to an already big pile.

Jackson Town Council passes disaster declaration

POSTED: 01:52 PM MDT Apr 09, 2014 JACKSON, Wyo. -

The Jackson Town Council has declared a state of emergency and adopted a disaster declaration due to concerns that portions of a hill could slide.

It also passed a delegation of authority authorizing expenditures up to $50,000.

"This declaration and resolution is a crucial step in correctly responding to this situation and obtaining assistance when needed," said Town Manager Bob McLaurin in a news release.

Budge Drive and the surrounding area were evacuated Wednesday around 7:30 p.m.

"The ground was shifting, not just on the surface, but deeper down underneath the ground, 40 to 50 feet down," said Roxanne Robinson, the incident command public information officer.

Authorities said most of the 60 people who live on Budge Drive have evacuated along with employees of Walgreens and of the businesses in the Hillside Complex.

The Great Lakes Are Still Almost Half Frozen, And It Could Affect The Environment For Years

The Huffington Post | by Joseph Erbentraut
    Posted: 04/17/2014 6:06 pm EDT

Though more than a month has passed since ice coverage on the Great Lakes reached a near-record high, the amount of ice that still remains could have a big impact on the environment in the months -- and years -- ahead.

    Earth Changes 2013 - Daily Updates - Page 5 O-FROZEN-GREAT-LAKES-570

As of Wednesday, 37.1 percent of the lakes remain covered in ice. While that's way down from a high of 92.2 percent in early March, pictured above -- and the second-highest ice cover since recording began in 1973 -- it's still an unprecedented amount of ice to have at this time of year, as an Environment Canada bar graph illustrates:

The historic ice coverage is causing some problems. U.S. Coast Guard cutters were needed to create a route to Marquette, Mich., along the shores of the 64-percent-frozen Lake Superior, so that coal could be delivered from Duluth, Minn., allowing the local mining industry to continue operations, CBS Chicago reports.

In Marquette Harbor, the ice is reportedly up to 2 feet thick, according to CBS.

First Sign of Methane Outgassing from Arctic Ocean
    Tuesday, August 5, 2014

Scientists from the University of Stockholm have detected gigantic methane plumes escaping from the sea floor of the Laptev continental slope. It is believed that this is due to the melting of methane hydrates that have been frozen on the floor of the ocean. They are now melting and releasing the gas because the Arctic Ocean, along with the rest of the arctic, is warming rapidly.

In the past, interglacials such as the one we are in now have ended with a sudden release of methane from Arctic Ocean hydrates, which has been followed by a period of extreme global heating that, when the methane dissipates, transforms violently into a much colder regime that brings on another ice age. Whitley Strieber and Art Bell detailed this process in Superstorm, which was generally dismissed as nonsense.

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas. It retains 50 times more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide, and will cause global heating that will make the planet non-viable for humans in some areas, most notably the world's deserts, the US Southwest, southern China and southern India. Once all the methane hydrates are melted and methane stops releasing, it will dissipate, and the heat trapped in the atmosphere will be released into space. As human activity by that time will no longer be extensive enough to contribute any significant warming effect, the Holocene interglacial will end and the planet will return to a much colder regime than we now enjoy.

If the methane releases slowly, it will dissipate faster than it accumulates in the atmosphere, and the process won't generate a dramatic climate shift. This hopeful outcome seems unlikely, however, because the methane plumes already appearing are 'vast' according to the SWERUS-C3 scientists who made the observations. It is believed that an incursion of warmer Atlantic water that stretches deep into the Arctic Ocean has become warmer, causing the hydrates to release.

8/6/2014 If you didn't watch this on the Pole shift news yesterday, you really need to watch it here. I think that he may be on to something that needs to be seriously considered and discussed
