a side note:

Today was the first sunrise seen up here in the Snoqualime pass area in a while...
And by the looks of all the holes the local Groundhog's ~ are digging ~ up and about here in North Bend, Washington ...

It appears there will be at least 6 more weeks of winter coming...

STILL ~ A QUIET SUN: Solar activity is very low. None of the sunspots on the Earthside of the sun is actively erupting,
and NOAA forecasters estimate no more than a 1% chance of M-class flares during the next 24 hours.

(special note ~ this is a good time to assimilate all that you have absorbed from these recent cosmic solar baths,
so take care of good yourself ~ be easy and gentle with each other ~ cos lots more is coming around the bend

"A Huge Magnetic Filament has lifted off the solar corona, This disturbance has an associated solar tsunami (Hyder Flare). Shortly after a significant halo coronal mass ejection (CME) was observed and it appears will have components heading earth's way as the filament was in an earth facing position with the majority of the mass heading slightly above or northerly, however this still may deliver a glancing blow to the earth Feb 9."

Here's a neat 'Pick of The Week' from ~ SOHO

By combining observations from several instruments, we can see an initial solar eruption and the ensuing, large cloud of particles that blasted into space over a 10-hour period (Feb. 9-10, 2012). A close look at the orange-colored Sun image in extreme UV light shows a filament that broke away from the Sun to the right. This event was associated with a bright coronal mass ejection (CME) starting around 18:00 UT as seen by the STEREO Behind spacecraft. This eruption also occurred in conjunction with a B3.7 flare (fairly small). One combination of observations shows just the Sun in extreme UV light superimposed on the COR1 coronagraph (green).
