A Solar Update From our friend ~ SolarWatcher ...

A very long duration C6.4 event was detected around Active Region 11402. A Full-Halo Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) was produced shortly after. This CME will hit Venus during the late hours of Jan. 18th. This CME might deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field around 1200 UT on Jan. 19th. The impact could cause geomagnetic activity and auroras around the Arctic Circle.

Earth is entering a moderately-fast (540 km/s) solar wind stream that could spark geomagnetic disturbances around the Arctic Circle. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras tonight.

There is apparently missing LASCO imagery (The Large Angle and Spectrometric Corona-graph Instrument),

that gives images of the Sun's solar corona(s)...

WHAT A STORM !
We are just now beginning to get dug out and power restored up here just east of Seattle up in the Snoqualmie Pass area of the West Cascades (after a three day surge) in which everything here got knocked out !!

i just heard (but am not surprised) this massive Pacific Northwest winter front (which is still packing high winds up here), has blasted clear across the U. S. during the last couple of days...?

i will ketch-up here as soon as i get things sorted out a bit ...Again what a storm !!! Blink

RADIATION STORM IN PROGRESS: Solar protons accelerated by this morning's M9-class solar flare are streaming past Earth. On the NOAA scale of radiation storms, this one ranks S3, which means it could, e.g., cause isolated reboots of computers onboard Earth-orbiting satellites and interfere with polar radio communications. An example of satellite effects: The "snow" in this SOHO coronagraph movie is caused by protons hitting the observatory's onboard camera.
