24 Feb 09 - Scientists agree that Earth has long been subjected to thousands of traumatic magnetic reversals of the poles, and that we're due for another -- but when?

This video from the National Geographic says the reversal is “imminent.”

To gain more understanding of our magnetic field, in 2010 the European Space Agency will launch three SWARM satellites. These satellites - successors to the Ørsted satellite - will be equipped with magnetometers to map the earth’s magnetic field. One of the satellites will orbit at about 530 km above the earth, the other two will fly side by side at about 430 km, providing a sort of ‘stereo-vision’ of the magnetic field.

The earth’s magnetic field protects us from deadly cosmic
radiation. As our magnetic field strength decays - which it
is now doing - cosmic radiation will get closer and closer
to earth. This radiation, I maintain, is what causes
    evolutionary leaps.

Discontinuities in the fossil record provide the basis for the evolutionary theory of punctuated-equilibrium proposed by Eldredge and Gould (1972). Their theory suggests that the production of new species (as evidence of evolution) occurs by rapid bursts that are delineated by long periods (50,000 - 100,000 years in most cases) of stasis where no apparent changes take place. This contemporary theory of evolution, however, has not gained widespread acceptance and remains highly controversial (Futuyma 1986; Sober 1995). Clearly, to produce a significant evolutionary burst of this magnitude would require a most striking event leading to an abrupt change in gene frequency. Of the forces that are touted to alter gene frequency and drive evolution (inverse of Hardy-Weinberg Law assumptions; Griffiths 1996), none appear capable of generating such a dramatic alteration so quickly. Though genetic drift has been invoked to explain this anomaly, its impact, too, has been challenged (Futuyma 1986; Sober 1995). How evolution becomes 'punctuated' is puzzling.

One possibility could involve magnetic (polarity) reversal, a relatively rapid change in the polarity of Earth's geomagnetic field where the North Pole becomes the south magnetic pole and vice versa (Jacobs 1984). This theoretical force of evolution operates on Ecke et al.'s (1995) newly-discovered relationship between chiral symmetry (= handedness) and the orientation of the magnetic field; spiral defect patterns displaying distinct handedness form observed in a chaotic flow of carbon dioxide in a Rayleigh-Benard convection broke symmetry when the rotation about the vertical axis (spiral analog of the magnetic field) was reversed. These investigators concluded that the winding direction of a spiral was analogous to a magnetic spin. That is, a right-handed magnetic spin generates a clockwise spiral and a left-handed magnetic spin reverses the spiral counterclockwise.

With regard to DNA, a change in the orientation of the magnetic field would therefore translate into a left-handed (counterclockwise spiral) to right-hand (clockwise spiral) switch (Z-DNA to B-DNA that can now be transcribed) or the reverse (B-DNA to Z-DNA whose role may be involved with regulating expression of certain genes or in genetic recombination) (Lodish et al. 1995; Griffiths 1996). Such changes in handedness of DNA would lead to gene activation or deactivation (Lodish et al. 1995), differential gene expression, and a change in gene frequency that drives evolution. Most strikingly, as is well known to geologists, reversals in the orientation of the Earth's magnetic field occur every 10,000 - 100,000 years (Jacobs 1984) and thus, the pronounced bursts of speciation associated with punctuated-equilibrium evolution are reflected by abrupt changes in gene frequency as a result thereof."

The strange case of solar flares and radioactive elements
When researchers found an unusual linkage between solar flares and the inner life of radioactive elements on Earth, it touched off a scientific detective investigation that could end up protecting the lives of space-walking astronauts and maybe rewriting some of the assumptions of physics. It's a mystery that presented itself unexpectedly: The radioactive decay of some elements sitting quietly in laboratories on Earth seemed to be influenced by activities inside the sun, 93 million miles away.

    Is this possible?

Researchers from Stanford and Purdue University believe it is. But their explanation of how it happens opens the door to yet another mystery.

There is even an outside chance that this unexpected effect is brought about by a previously unknown particle emitted by the sun. "That would be truly remarkable," said Peter Sturrock, Stanford professor emeritus of applied physics and an expert on the inner workings of the sun.

The story begins, in a sense, in classrooms around the world, where students are taught that the rate of decay of a specific radioactive material is a constant. This concept is relied upon, for example, when anthropologists use carbon-14 to date ancient artifacts and when doctors determine the proper dose of radioactivity to treat a cancer patient.

    Random numbers

But that assumption was challenged in an unexpected way by a group of researchers from Purdue University who at the time were more interested in random numbers than nuclear decay. (Scientists use long strings of random numbers for a variety of calculations, but they are difficult to produce, since the process used to produce the numbers has an influence on the outcome.)

Ephraim Fischbach, a physics professor at Purdue, was looking into the rate of radioactive decay of several isotopes as a possible source of random numbers generated without any human input. (A lump of radioactive cesium-137, for example, may decay at a steady rate overall, but individual atoms within the lump will decay in an unpredictable, random pattern. Thus the timing of the random ticks of a Geiger counter placed near the cesium might be used to generate random numbers.)

As the researchers pored through published data on specific isotopes, they found disagreement in the measured decay rates – odd for supposed physical constants.

Checking data collected at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island and the Federal Physical and Technical Institute in Germany, they came across something even more surprising: long-term observation of the decay rate of silicon-32 and radium-226 seemed to show a small seasonal variation. The decay rate was ever so slightly faster in winter than in summer.

Was this fluctuation real, or was it merely a glitch in the equipment used to measure the decay, induced by the change of seasons, with the accompanying changes in temperature and humidity?

"Everyone thought it must be due to experimental mistakes, because we're all brought up to believe that decay rates are constant," Sturrock said.

    The sun speaks

On Dec 13, 2006, the sun itself provided a crucial clue, when a solar flare sent a stream of particles and radiation toward Earth. Purdue nuclear engineer Jere Jenkins, while measuring the decay rate of manganese-54, a short-lived isotope used in medical diagnostics, noticed that the rate dropped slightly during the flare, a decrease that started about a day and a half before the flare.

If this apparent relationship between flares and decay rates proves true, it could lead to a method of predicting solar flares prior to their occurrence, which could help prevent damage to satellites and electric grids, as well as save the lives of astronauts in space.

The decay-rate aberrations that Jenkins noticed occurred during the middle of the night in Indiana – meaning that something produced by the sun had traveled all the way through the Earth to reach Jenkins' detectors. What could the flare send forth that could have such an effect?

Jenkins and Fischbach guessed that the culprits in this bit of decay-rate mischief were probably solar neutrinos, the almost weightless particles famous for flying at almost the speed of light through the physical world – humans, rocks, oceans or planets – with virtually no interaction with anything.

Then, in a series of papers published in Astroparticle Physics, Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research and Space Science Reviews, Jenkins, Fischbach and their colleagues showed that the observed variations in decay rates were highly unlikely to have come from environmental influences on the detection systems.

    Reason for suspicion

Their findings strengthened the argument that the strange swings in decay rates were caused by neutrinos from the sun. The swings seemed to be in synch with the Earth's elliptical orbit, with the decay rates oscillating as the Earth came closer to the sun (where it would be exposed to more neutrinos) and then moving away.

So there was good reason to suspect the sun, but could it be proved?

Enter Peter Sturrock, Stanford professor emeritus of applied physics and an expert on the inner workings of the sun. While on a visit to the National Solar Observatory in Arizona, Sturrock was handed copies of the scientific journal articles written by the Purdue researchers.

Sturrock knew from long experience that the intensity of the barrage of neutrinos the sun continuously sends racing toward Earth varies on a regular basis as the sun itself revolves and shows a different face, like a slower version of the revolving light on a police car. His advice to Purdue: Look for evidence that the changes in radioactive decay on Earth vary with the rotation of the sun. "That's what I suggested. And that's what we have done."

    A surprise

Going back to take another look at the decay data from the Brookhaven lab, the researchers found a recurring pattern of 33 days. It was a bit of a surprise, given that most solar observations show a pattern of about 28 days – the rotation rate of the surface of the sun.

The explanation? The core of the sun – where nuclear reactions produce neutrinos – apparently spins more slowly than the surface we see. "It may seem counter-intuitive, but it looks as if the core rotates more slowly than the rest of the sun," Sturrock said.

All of the evidence points toward a conclusion that the sun is "communicating" with radioactive isotopes on Earth, said Fischbac
    h.

But there's one rather large question left unanswered. No one knows how neutrinos could interact with radioactive materials to change their rate of decay.

"It doesn't make sense according to conventional ideas," Fischbach said. Jenkins whimsically added, "What we're suggesting is that something that doesn't really interact with anything is changing something that can't be changed."

"It's an effect that no one yet understands," agreed Sturrock. "Theorists are starting to say, 'What's going on?' But that's what the evidence points to. It's a challenge for the physicists and a challenge for the solar people too."

If the mystery particle is not a neutrino, "It would have to be something we don't know about, an unknown particle that is also emitted by the sun and has this effect, and that would be even more remarkable," Sturrock said.

Chantal Jolagh, a science-writing intern at the Stanford News Service, contributed to this story.
    http://news.stanford.edu/news/2010/august/sun-082310.html

If one takes into consideration that the sun has its own conscious awareness then the sun "communicating" with radioactive isotopes on Earth makes sense. One just needs to move into a quantum physics perspective and leave 3D compartmental thinking behind.

    Magnetic Reversals and Evolutionary Leaps
    MENSA Bulletin reviews

18 Aug 09 - MENSA Bulletin, the magazine of American MENSA, reviewed Magnetic Reversals and Evolutionary Leaps in this month's issue.

"According to Felix," the review begins, "you can forget Darwin's theory of slow, stately, orderly evolution. Rather, he believes that geomagnetic reversals over the course of history have triggered gigantic leaps, which occur according to a predictable, natural cycle...and the next cycle is due soon."

"At last, here's a probable explanation of those '"missing links," the review continues. "There aren't any."

"New species do not evolve slowly, but arise abruptly; new plants and animals seemingly appear from nowhere, with no intermediate life forms to explain their presence; and geologic records show that this happens immediately after extinctions and in conjunction with geomagnetic reversals time and again. Lowered magnetic field strength allows mutation-causing radiation to strike our planet."

"Now here's the clincher: Earth's magnetic field strength has declined by two-thirds over the past 2,000 years, and the rate of decline is increasing."

Magnetic reversal "imminent," says National Geographic - Earth's Electromagnetic Pole Shift Could Affect Your DNA Superstorm
Magnetic Polar Shifts Causing Massive Global Superstorms
    By Terrence Aym
Superstorms can cause certain societies, cultures or whole countries to collapse. Others may go to war with each other.
4 Feb 11 Forget global warming —what drives the climate is the sun's magnetosphere and its electromagnetic
interaction with a planet's own magnetic field.

4 Feb 11 - (Excerpts) - NASA has been warning about it…scientific papers have been written about it…geologists have seen its traces in rock strata and ice core samples…

Now "it" is here: an unstoppable magnetic pole shift that has sped up and is causing life-threatening havoc with the world's weather.

Forget about global warming—man-made or natural—what drives planetary weather patterns is the climate and what drives the climate is the sun's magnetosphere and its electromagnetic interaction with a planet's own magnetic field.

When the field shifts.... all hell breaks loose.... The magnetic field drives weather to a significant degree and when that field starts migrating superstorms start erupting...."

    The superstorms have arrived

The latest superstorm—as of this writing—is a monster over the U.S. that stretched across 2,000 miles affecting more than 150 million people.

Yet even as that storm wreaked havoc across the Western, Southern, Midwestern and Northeastern states, another superstorm broke out in the Pacific and closed in on Australia.

The southern continent had already dealt with the disaster of historic superstorm flooding from rains that dropped as much as several feet in a matter of hours. Tens of thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed....

But then only a handful of weeks later another superstorm—the megamonster cyclone Yasi—struck northeastern Australia. The damage it left in its wake is being called by rescue workers a war zone....

The possibility more storms like Yasi or worse will wreak havoc on our civilization and resources is found in the complicated electromagnetic relationship between the sun and Earth....

The sun's dynamic, ever-changing electric magnetosphere interfaces with the Earth's own magnetic field affecting, to a degree, the Earth's rotation, precessional wobble, dynamics of the planet's core, its ocean currents and—above all else—the weather.

    Cracks in Earth's Magnetic Shield
Magnetic reversal "imminent," says National Geographic - Earth's Electromagnetic Pole Shift Could Affect Your DNA Magnetosphere1
The Earth's northern magnetic pole was moving towards Russia at a rate of about five miles annually. That progression to the East had been happening for decades.

Suddenly, in the past decade the rate sped up. Now the magnetic pole is shifting East at a rate of 40 miles annually, an increase of 800 percent. And it continues to accelerate.

Recently, as the magnetic field fluctuates, NASA has discovered "cracks" in it. This is worrisome as it significantly affects the ionosphere, troposphere wind patterns, and atmospheric moisture. All three things have an effect on the weather.

Worse, what shields the planet from cancer-causing radiation is the magnetic field. It acts as a shield deflecting harmful ultra-violet, X-rays and other life-threatening radiation from bathing the surface of the Earth. With the field weakening and cracks emerging, the death rate from cancer could skyrocket and mutations of DNA can become rampant....

Mutations. That's what "Magnetic Reversals and Evolutionary Leaps" is all about.

Magnetic field may dip, flip and disappear

The Economist wrote a detailed article about the magnetic field and what's happening to it. In the article they noted:

There is, however, a growing body of evidence that the Earth's magnetic field is about to disappear, at least for a while. The geological record shows that it flips from time to time, with the south pole becoming the north, and vice versa.

Aym goes on to tell about discussions at the Greenland Space Science Symposium, held in Kangerlussuaq this week, that the signs are that another flip is coming soon. He also cites a Danish study that found strong correlation between climate change, weather patterns and the magnetic field, and challenges the notion that human emissions are responsible for global warming.

Pole reversal may also be initiating new Ice Age

And finally, he discusses the idea that we could well be entering an ice age.

thank you carol. a light bulb just went off in my head. i remember reading marciniak's books saying that near 2012, the radiation onto earth will not be withstood by many and how important is it is to work on your spiritual evolution - to "vibrate" at a higher rate. she mentioned how important the sun is in our evolution. i'm going to try and find those passages again bec. while reading it several years ago, this magnetic reversal and the sun's effect on the earth's magnetic field was hardly talked about then so it didn't make any sense to me.

[Pulsating auroras, oscillating waves and planetary tremors
Posted on February 6, 2011 by The Extinction Protocol - PULSATING AURORAS: During the geomagnetic storm of Feb. 4th, Fredrik Broms of Kvaløya, Norway, witnessed an episode of elusive pulsating auroras. “The sky was filled with patches of green that oscillated in brightness,” he explains. A snapshot with his Nikon D3 caught the phenomenon in mid-pulse: “The patches didn’t move much, but their intensity changed. When one patch got brighter another became more diffuse and so on,” Broms describes. Reports of pulsating auroras go back more than a century, but until recently no one knew what made the aurora borealis behave like a strobe light. Researchers from UCLA solved the puzzle in 2009-10. Using data from NASA’s THEMIS spacecraft, they discovered that auroras pulse in sync to ‘chorus waves’ in Earth’s magnetosphere. This is a type of plasma wave that seems to be able to modulate the flow of solar wind particles down to Earth during geomagnetic storms. Clearly, the chorus was singing on Feb. 4th. –Space Weather

We detected this unusual oscillating pattern in our report of a magnetospheric anomaly associated with the planetary tremor event on February 4th. See - Anomalistic 21:00 hour tremor

Kīlauea is the youngest and southeastern most volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. Topographically Kīlauea appears as only a bulge on the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa, and so for many years Kīlauea was thought to be a mere satellite of its giant neighbor, not a separate volcano. However, research over the past few decades shows clearly that Kīlauea has its own magma-plumbing system, extending to the surface from more than 60 km deep in the earth.

USGS February 4, 2011 report: The summit tiltmeter network recorded continued inflation with six brief deflation events coinciding with the high lava stands; each high stand/tilt event was a linear 0.1 microradian deflation followed by an abrupt inflation back to previous tilt levels. The network of GPS receivers recorded continued extension across the summit since the beginning of November, the most recent part of a long-term extension across the summit crater since early 2010; the extension seems to be fastest in the vicinity of Halema`uma`u Crater. An unusually high number of eighteen earthquakes were strong enough to be located within Kilauea volcano – three deep quakes immediately adjacent to the summit caldera (to the west, north, and east), two beneath the southern edge of the summit caldera, ten within the upper east rift zone (eight clustered beneath Koko`olau Crater including a preliminary magnitude-3.0 quake just before 2 am this morning), and three on south flank faults; the upper east rift zone seismicity continues to be a concern. -USGS

Volcanic hell: Japan entering new stage of geological upheaval
February 4, 2011 – Tokyo – “Shinmoedake, a volcano on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, erupted again as the government said it will send officials to the area to help local authorities create an evacuation plan. The 1,421-meter (4,660 feet) volcano in the Kirishima range erupted at 9:42 a.m. local time following three eruptions yesterday, sending a plume of ash and smoke as high as 3,000 meters, a branch division of the agency said in a statement. The plume was drifting east-northeast toward Miyazaki Prefecture’s Pacific coastline, the statement said. The government plans to send a group of natural disaster officials to the area as early as Feb. 7, Shigeo Ochi, an official at the Cabinet Office, said in a telephone interview today. Japan’s Meteorological Agency is maintaining a level 3 alert for Shinmoedake, indicating an eruption “may seriously affect places near residential areas.” Evacuations are carried out when the alert reaches the maximum 5. “In the case of a major eruption, if the central and local governments have an evacuation plan ready, that can ensure there’s a smooth evacuation with no loss of life,” he said. Japan Airlines Corp., All Nippon Airways Co. and Skymark Airlines Inc., Japan’s biggest discount carrier, said flights to the region may be delayed or diverted because of the ash plume. Shinmoedake erupted for the first time in 52 years on Jan. 27 and has erupted more than 10 times since, according to the JMA. The agency says a lava dome in the crater is growing and may spill out, creating a lava flow. Authorities are maintaining a restricted zone of 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) around the volcano. The weather agency is also maintaining a level 3 alert for Sakurajima, 45 kilometers (28 miles) to the southwest. The volcano is among Japan’s most active, with 1,026 volcanic incidents in 2010, the most since at least 1982, according to Japan’s weather agency.”

The volcanic firestorm erupting across Japan is one more sign, like Iceland’s recent volcanic unrest, that the planet is now tilting towards geological upheaval. The magnetic reversal is accelerating and the sea-floor under the Pacific Ocean is spreading. Earthquakes are increasing around Japan and in the Pacific Ring of Fire and the Pacific plate is now experiencing increasing amounts of seismic tension. The volcanic arcs are arming submarine volcanoes with magma swells. Sea-surface temperature in the South Pacific and surrounding Indonesia is rising. We are on the eve of witnessing destructive geological changes to this planet unknown in our lifetime. Japan is entering a new stage of geological upheaval. The rest of the planet will soon follow.

Planetary tremor: the anomalistic 2100 hour event
February 3, 2011 – Above: (left) Pitcairn Island seismic wave anomaly - (right) New Zealand. Another planetary tremor occurred at 21:00 hours GMT. What’s notable about the latest planetary seismic event is that it’s one of the oddest we’ve seen. Trouble is once again developing in the South Pacific region. The 4.5 magnitude quake on the South Island of New Zealand and the 5.4 earthquake which struck the volcanic region of Tonga is testament to continual South Pacific unrest. The global seismic pattern also shows what looks like a massive Pacific Plate obstruction in subduction to the Indo-Australian plate. We think the seismic vibrations from this event rattled tectonic plates across the globe. Areas of most prominence include Samoa, followed by an oscillating wave under Pitcairn Island, South Pacific and a sizable jolt near the Kermandec Islands and Tonga.

(left) Chile anomaly and (right) Kermandec Islands. The trembling was seen through Norway and can also be seen in the recent flurry of 3.0 magnitude tremors to rattle the MAR running through Iceland. Pulse tremors followed across Chile and Brazil and rippled to Antarctica. All this could be leading to another major mega-thrust quake. Below, Iceland tremors and the unsual bow oscillating wave in the magnetosphere of a planet shaken during rotation and magnetic field propagation.

Can these quakes create enough of a harmonic influence to trigger other potential weaknesses in the plates, like 2 tuning forks ?

Shaken and stirred- planetary tremors and geomagnetic storms
Posted on February 2, 2011 by The Extinction Protocol
February 2, 2011 – The latest planetary tremor occurred at 1:00 GMT. The rattling appeared to be most prominent along the Arctic Circle and then reverberated down and across the globe, stirring tectonic plates across the planet in the process. The latest tremor halos with the arrival of the geomagnetic storm that struck the planet about 30 hours ago- though the two events appear to be unrelated. (Left) N. Russia and (right) Antarctica.

Well you certainly have me laughing burgundia. I'm sitting here making lists and deciding what I can get done in the next couple of weeks.. and laughing about it all as if this does happen my husband can retire and we'll just stay home on the farm. I just purchased a Ma and Pa Kettle DVD. Maybe we can get some tips.

Our friend just was sharing how her mother used to use a plunger to aggitate the clothes for washing and how they did that for washing clothes at zen center as well. Then she described the hand pump for the well. I think I'm going to start filling up the empty plastic water bottles I've been saving and just store them in the garage.
