A huge water tornado was filmed spinning towards a city's high-rise buildings - forcing people to run for their lives from from the beach.

This incredible footage shot shows George Town, in Penang, Malaysia, where almost 200,000 people live.

The enormous waterspout is seen moving towards the high-rise buildings of the Tanjung Tokong suburb.

The clip shows the massive columnar vortex moving towards a beach.

Local media reports that at least 50 houses in the area were badly damaged, but the water dispersed just five minutes after reaching land.

The waterspout was heading towards the city.

Fifty buildings were damaged as the tornado hit land.

It ripped off the roofs of some houses and fell several trees at about 1.35pm, a Penang Civil Defence Force spokesman told Channel News Asia.

He added that there were no injuries reported.

George Town resident Nona Khalid said she was waiting for her two grandchildren to return home from school when the storm suddenly hit and she saw the waterspout approaching her house.

The 75-year-old said: "The sound of the wind was deafening and I saw part of the roof of my house being flown away by the wind.

People ran from the beach as it hit land.

"It was very scary and took place for the first time in the 50 years I have been staying here."

Fried banana trader, 52-year-old Zaleha Mat Zain, said she managed to run to the mosque area and and saw her stall destroyed by the storm.

"I am thankful that I am safe. The materials for my business such as banana and tapioca were damaged by the storm."

She added that more than 10 other stalls were also destroyed by the storm.

Two children killed and 18 injured as 'dust devil' blows bounce house into sky

Waterspouts have a five-part cycle starting with the formation of a dark spot on the water surface, then a spiral pattern.

This is followed by the formation of a spray ring and then the funnel, before finally disappearing.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6880869/Colossal-20ft-tall-wall-ice-stretches-Nebraska-field-heavy-bomb-cyclone-storm.html

The ice blocks were thrown over a million acres of farmland by a 'bomb cyclone'

They have scraped away topsoil, destroyed property and uprooted a bridge

As they receded shards of ice were dumped in a mile long ice-wall in Nebraska

Ann Kepler said the ice wall was in her 75-acre hay meadow, Kaya Paha county

If it doesn't melt soon, the ice could disrupt hay growing for her livestock

At least 1.1 million acres of cropland and more than 84,000 acres of pastureland in the US Midwest had flood waters on then for at least seven days between March 8 and March 21, satellite data analysed by Gro Intelligence revealed. Floodwaters submerged fields from the Dakotas to Missouri for a week while ice blocks scraped away topsoil, flattened property and uprooted a bridge.

'There's thousands of acres that won't be able to be planted', Ryan Sonderup, 36, who has been farming for 18 years in Fullerton, Nebraska, said.

'If we had straight sunshine now until May and June, maybe it can be done, but I don't see how that soil gets back with expected rainfall.'

Fields are strewn with everything from silt and sand to tyre meaning some may not even be farmed this year. The water has also destroyed billions of dollars of old crops that were in storage, as well as damaging roads and railways. The "Bomb Cyclone" Is Back And It's Pounding The Northeast
    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-04-03/bomb-cyclone-back-and-its-pounding-northeast

Low-pressure will intensify off the East Coast Wednseday as it tracks northeastward, potentially becoming a bomb cyclone, a term meteorologists use to describe a low-pressure system that drops 24 millibars (or atmospheric pressure) over 24 hours.

The Capital Weather Gang says New York, Boston, and Philadelphia could experience travel disruptions early Wednseday. Low-level wind shear could be a problem at major airports in those regions, possibly causing delays until mid-afternoon.

In the higher elevation regions of Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and Vermont, the expectation of snow is high. Regions over 1,000 feet will have a quick "burst of snow," according to the National Weather Service in Boston.

"This is a typical early spring event for us in southern New England," said Bill Simpson, a spokesman at the Weather Service’s Boston office.

Boston will mainly have a rain event on Wednseday morning, but could see snowflakes as the backend of the storm is packed with cold air.

The most severe weather will be seen offshore. Hurricane wind warnings are posted across New England's coast. Sustained winds of 40 to 50 mph, gusting to 75 to 80 mph, will produce rough seas.

Skies will clear across New England in the afternoon as the storm heads for northeast Canada. Temperatures will rise to the lower 50s by late afternoon.

More freak weather and the last bomb cyclone we reported on exploded last month across the Midwest and caused catastrophic floods.

You're Not Dying, It's The Schumann Resonance

By now, there isn’t one person on Earth that has not felt some kind of weird and unexplained physical symptom that makes them feel uncomfortable. Many do not understand why this is occurring, and some go to their doctor to find that there is nothing wrong with them.

    by Michelle Walling, CHLC

In turn, doctors are realizing that there seems to be a phenomena of unexplained “psychosomatic” occurrences. There is scientific evidence that something is happening on the planet that is shaking the apple cart up at this time, and this evidence is from a Russian website that tracks the Schumann Resonance.

he Schumann Resonance is a global electromagnetic resonance named by physicist Winfried Otto Schumann who predicted it mathematically in 1952.

The official description from Wikipedia is...

“The Schumann resonances (SR) are a set of spectrum peaks in the extremely low frequency (ELF) portion of the Earth’s electromagnetic field spectrum. Schumann resonances are global electromagnetic resonances, generated and excited by lightning discharges in the cavity formed by the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere.”

As you can see, the Wikipedia explanation says that we have had a whole lot of lightning lately if you read the charts that I am about to show you.

Regardless of whether what is happening on the planet is indeed causing more “lightning” or whether it is causing the equipment to pick up on something else, the scientific evidence proves that something is disturbing or spiking the electromagnetic frequency on the planet.

For thousands of year the Schumann resonance has been measured at 7.83 hertz or within shallow spikes of this depending on how many storms are on the planet at the time. A Russian website that can be found HERE is one of the only public sites that releases the daily data on the current Schumann fluctuations. The reasons for this are unclear but seem to point at the control of keeping the data from the public eye.

How does the Schumann Resonance Affect humans?

As a spiritual being merged with a human body, we also merged with the consciousness and energetic makeup of Earth when we were born into a human body. To stay in sync with the planetary composition and frequencies, the human body has an auto correct system that can re-calibrate to the environment when needed.

When the auric field of a human is not in sync, however, it is difficult for the emotional, mental, spiritual, and etheric bodies to sync with the physical body and the frequency of Earth.

At the same time, a burst in frequency of Earth’s magnetic frequencies can jostle any energetic blockages in the auric field that can cause the physical body to stay at a low or stagnant ELF (extremely low frequency).

Bursts of higher frequencies are a good thing for clearing of the auric field of the human, as long as it is done in moderation. For instance, if a person were to be electrocuted from a household electrical outlet, they may have a better chance at recovering than being struck by lightning.

The spiritual and metaphysical explanation of raising the frequency of the physical body is the higher the frequency, the less dense reality the human will be experiencing. The goal is to transform the dense, controlling reality we are experiencing in a way that unifies humanity in a love based higher consciousness while still existing in the physical body.

This can only be achieved by releasing the energetic blocks of the past and of childhood that keep one stuck in creating a recurring illusion of denseness and dis-ease in the physical reality. This will allow the physical body to vibrate harmoniously with the planetary frequency and to have a healthy energy flow within the body which prevents aging and disease.

If a human is stuck in old patterning and beliefs, or perhaps is lulled by complacency into a low frequency, then a burst of frequency can do one of two things. If the person has raised their consciousness enough to realize something is happening and is able to have an open mind and an open heart, then the person will begin to absorb these frequencies as much and as fast as their mind and spirit allows them to.

Absorbing these frequencies causes the water in the body to begin to vibrate at the frequency of the spike. This could cause many uncomfortable symptoms but in the end it is also a testament that something is really happening to our planet and to our consciousness.

A few of the most common symptoms of these spikes in electromagnetic frequency are:

Hot flashes — as the body vibrates faster it generates heat
    Blurred vision
    Vertigo (dizziness)
    Irregular or skipped heartbeat
Unexplained pains that may linger to be acknowledged or may mysteriously come and go
Ringing in one or both ears. High pitched frequencies, harmonic tones, and/or sometimes temporary deafening
Mood swings as emotional blocks come up to be resolved
Extreme fatigue or extreme energy bursts depending on the kind of frequency experienced at the time and how the individual is dealing with it
Increased intuition, a sense of knowing or remembering things that guide you through difficulties, and increased sixth sense abilities (beyond touch, taste, feel, hearing, and sight)
    Nausea
    Flu-like symptoms
    Problems with bowels
Extreme hunger or lack of hunger- different then usual
Anxiety and increased fight or flight mode in the body

As you can see, if some of these negatively affected symptoms persist without the person doing things to help the body acclimate, it certainly could feel like the body would begin to exhibit more evidence of shutting down and may make you feel as if you are dying.

In fact, it is purging in order to be able to acclimate, very similar to how it deals with flu or viruses.

If a person is completely unconscious and is not a caring, compassionate human, (or is not a souled human at all) then these frequencies will irritate and disturb and will most likely not be integrated. Thus these type of people will stay at a low frequency and will not benefit from the incoming waves of energy.

It could even begin to cause their physical body to shut down because it will not be able to stay manifest in harmony with the planet’s frequency. Unfortunately some people are not handling this well physically and we are seeing people “leaving” at this time (dying).

There is certainly no judgment in this, as some people did not choose to go through this shift in frequency or simply did not have enough energy left to handle it, and no one ever really “dies” anyway. They simply move to another frequency outside of the constraints of the physical body and go where they need to in order to continue on their journey.

How to acclimate the body to accept the higher frequencies

There are many ways to help yourself adjust to the energies, but here are a few of the most common:

Meditation — not the kind of meditation to connect with astral beings or to have out of body experiences. Peace, pause, and breath meditation and focusing on energy flow works best, and open eye meditation is also good.
Grounding, or Earthing — Bare feet on the ground, spending time in nature, sea salt baths, swimming, eating grounding foods.
Asking your higher being (higher self/Source/Guidance team) to assist you in acclimation, especially if you are suffering.
Drink plenty of pure water! No fluoride.
Rest — the body has an uncanny ability to do much of it’s re-setting while it is asleep or lying still.
Loving yourself and caring for the body.
Gentle exercise — moving the energy to release blockages and encourage proper energy flow.
Whole foods — as opposed to processed or GMO foods.
    Massage
Spiritual Counsel or Life Coaching with an expert who has an understanding of the cause and holistic treatments
Listen to your body and do what feels right to make it comfortable

How to read the Schumann Resonance

Those who are sensitive to energy have been able to correlate when they are feeling something really different, and look up the chart to see if a “wave” is occurring.

Here is a screen shot of what the Schumann Resonance looked like from the Russian website on November 9, 2018:

Earth Changes from September 2017 - to present / Biblical Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Floods, Volcanic Activity, Fires, Snow Ice Storms - Page 14 Schumann%2Bresonance%2Bchart

On the left axis you will see the hertz and on the lower axis you will see the time of day in UTC +7. The top axis shows the date. The green shows what I assume are normal pulses of electromagnetic frequency.

A “white out” has been shown to correlate with thousand of people being able to feel the fluctuation in their physical body. the wider the band of the white out, the longer the wave is consistently hitting.

The one showed here was a big one, starting around 18:00 on November 8, 2018 and lasting for several hours. It looks as if the spikes were at around 24 hertz. As a side note, at this time I felt extremely sleepy and my eyes started blurring to where I could not read very well on the computer.

Here is the same chart with an arrow that shows what the “norm” of 7.83 hertz is:

Causes of the Ice Age and Nova, the Greatest Secret of the United States

Video series 4, Part 1, covers the most important information for anyone on this planet because I will fully explain what causes the ice ages and why they happen immediately after a geomagnetic reversal (Pole shift, polar reversal). The las time it happened was about 12,000 years age and it is estimated that only about 30 fertile females survived and all of us are related to one of them.

To ask Questions send them to: info@dieholdfoundation.com.

I will cover the cause of the Ice Ages at the time of Geomagnetic Reversals. The earth does not flip over on itself. Only the magnetic field reverses. I will explain the mechanism that creates the ice age and ice fields. This information has never been taught before because government felt it was too disruptive to society. Even if you have a degree in geology, astronomy or other related field, you were deliberately never taught this information. You were taught alternate explanations for the phenomena.

The research revealed the Greatest Secret the Country has and the CIAs Involvement. You are going to find out what event caused the government to engineer the concealment.

I am going to give you the Education you were supposed to have gotten when you went to College. I am going to present this information unblemished and treat all of you like mature adults, but I warn you that this information will scare you and change your life.

I present this information because I want some people to survive the reversal event.

This series of videos are takes from Chapter 8 in “God’s Day of Judgment, the Real Cause of Global Warming” which can be purchased through www.amazon.com or the publisher at www.vectorpub.com. The foundations web site www.dieholdfoundation.com has information on this information theory of existence as well as three expeditions to Egypt.

Series 4, Part 5B, Where to go and how to survive the Pole Shift and Ice Age
Sun will go Nova in 2047 - magnetic pole reversal

Sun Nova takes 8 minutes to get here. Earth will stop rotating. Pacific Ocean will go onto the land. Won't see the light from the sun for 8 minutes. Winds with 300-500 mph with ocean water rushing onto the West Coast land in about 300-400 miles. The rotation stops. Also quakes will last for days.  People on the sun side of the earth will be able to see the sun expand. Massive amounts of cosmic and gamma rays will reach the earth in about 10-15 minutes. Anything on the surface will get a dose of cosmic rays. It alter the DNA of those who survive. Particles may last about 30 seconds. No one really knows. The ocean on the sun side of the earth will evaporate and come back as hot rain. A lot of water/clouds surrounds the earth. 17-18 hours later the dushell (glass beads) from the sun blows out and manifests. Continued high speed winds. Temp dropped 200° below zero. Quakes 8 -10 over the surface with volcanoes going off all over.  There will be dark clouds, sheets of lighten, massive amounts of rain as the sun will give off a lot of ultra-violet light. Then white out conditions of snow for 40-50 years. Ice and snow 5 miles deep.

    Where to build a shelter.

    From GLP

"We are currently living through a cyclical convergence. Several cycles are converging at the moment.

The economic cycle is at the Minsky moment. The world economy is drowning in debt to the point that imminent collapse is only being staved off by the constant creation off more currency into the currency system. Increasing the supply of an asset that has value based on scarcity will only decrease the value of that asset. Quantitative easing might kick the can down the road but it can't sustain indefinitely and it only makes the inevitable value collapse worse.

The social cycle is at the decline section of the curve as well. Good times have created weak men and weak men (us) have begun to create hard times. The moral fabric of our society is fast unravelling. Very few of us are engaging in great struggles or accomplishing great feats. Many of us are entitled and arrogant.

The Empire cycle is reaching the end. The American Empire is in its final stages, their leader has been a combatant on Wrestlemania before if the point needed emphasising. Whatever your opinion on President Trump it can't be denied he is not a conventional choice for a ruler. American economic dominian has a life expectancy.

The civilisational cycle has reached its end as well, in terms of epochs of civilisation previous examples being Atlantean and Lumerian. Our current one can be thought of in terms of the Western dominance of the world. The global structure of civilisation itself has reach the zenith point on the curve and is at peak unsustainability, in terms of population, technological harmony with nature, and human direction. You can't live the way we live forever, the Earth is finite and resources have to come from somewhere.

The solar cycle is entering its Grand Solar minimum, it's energy output will be less, affecting the strong of the heliosphere. This means more energy from space will enter the solar system as the magnetic field of the sun weakens.

The astrological cycle is on a cusp. At some point we've moved or are moving into the Age of Aquarius, the change being around this particular time.

As well as these I have reason to believe the Earth magnetic field is about to flip in terms of its own natural cycle, current monitoring of the location of the magnetic poles shows an extreme speeding up to geographic north. This may result in the lithosphere being dragged with it and completely rearranged in terms of surface topography. There is a decent case to be made that the Sun's micronova cycle is about to occur.

All these cycles coming to a convergence now. It's arguably what the Mayan calander kept track of. What we are seeing currently in the world is only the beginning of the spectacle. I believe it's why there are so many of us here at the moment. To witness."

Black Death and Abrupt Earth Changes in the 14th century

    - (In the years before the Black Death in Europe), ”between Cathay and Persia there rained a vast rain of fire, falling in flakes like snow and burning up mountains and plains and other lands, with men and women;; and then arose vast masses of smoke;; and whoever beheld this died within the space of half an hour;; and likewise any man or woman who looked upon those who had seen this(..)”.1
--Philip Ziegler writing about the years before the out break of the Black Death

“The middle of the fourteenth century was a period of extraordinary terror and disaster to Europe. Numerous portents, which sadly frightened the people, were followed by a pestilence which threatened to turn the continent into an unpeopled wilderness. For year after year there were signs in the sky, on the earth, in the air, all indicative, as men thought, of some terrible coming event. In 1337 a great comet appeared in the heavens, its far- extending tail sowing deep dread in the minds of the ignorant masses. During the three succeeding years the land was visited by enormous flying armies of locusts, which descended in myriads upon the fields, and left the shadow of famine in their track. In 1348 came an earthquake of such frightful violence that many men deemed the end of the world to be presaged. Its devastations were widely spread. Cyprus, Greece, and Italy were terribly visited, and it extended through the Alpine valleys as far as Basle. Mountains sank into the earth. In Carinthia thirty villages and the tower of Villach were ruined. The air grew thick and stifling. There were dense and frightful fogs. Wine fermented in the casks. Fiery meteors appeared in the skies. A gigantic pillar of flame was seen by hundreds descending upon the roof of the pope’s palace at Avignon. In 1356 came another earthquake, which destroyed almost the whole of Basle. What with famine, flood, fog, locust swarms, earthquakes, and the like, it is not surprising that many men deemed the cup of the world’s sins to be full, and the end of the kingdom of man to be at hand.”

    Introduction:
The period from 1310-1350 saw the death of at least 50% of the population of Europe and Asia, in some areas, the accumulated death toll is believed to be in the 75 % range. It took more than 200 years for the population of Europe to recover to the previous numbers of the late 13th century.3 Already in 1315 -1320, the decline in population coincided with natural disasters that led to crop failure, abandonment of farm land, and the Great Famine that killed about 30% of the European population.

The greatest loss of life is of course attributed to the Black Death pandemic of 1348-51, which is commonly believed to be the result of a contagious disease imported from the far east. Traditional models contend it to be bubonic plague, others suggest pneumonic plague, anthrax or small pox.

The period from 1290 onward saw severe climate change and astronomical anomalies, which culminated in the 1348 crisis. The events at this climax involved comet/meteor sightings, earthquakes, noxious gases from the air, from the ground and the sea.
In this investigation, we’ll examine the evidence for a wide range of geological and astronomical irregularities and their effects on society. It seems appropriate to distinguish between decades- long perturbations and the culminating abrupt changes directly before and during the pandemic.

-First, the changes that began to take place in the late 13th century, roughly from the 1280s to the 1340s, including cold, wet seasons and floods, alternating with droughts, the first cold spell that ushered in the Little Ice Age, meteor activity, earthquakes, decreased sun spot activity, reduction in tree growth, crop failure, agricultural collapse, famine, locust invasions, wars.

All of this was preceded by recorded volcanic activity in the mid and late 1200s.

Then I’d like to direct the attention to the changes that took place directly before and during the pandemic, and the sudden ramping up of some of the before mentioned phenomena: earthquakes, noxious gases, storms, meteor/ comet sightings, “fire from the sky”, floods, lightning events and other atmospheric electrical phenomena, erratic human behavior. You might be able to get an impression on why many people at the time believed the Biblical End Times had begun.

Dendrochronologist Mike Bailey caused an uproar in the scientific community pointing to the cometary activity in his excellent 2009 New Light on the Black Death. He had identified a global climate event in the form of a reduction in tree growth at the time. In this text I will present many additional historical sources for celestial and geological upheaval in the immediate years of the 1348 crisis, but I will focus on the long term Earth changes and their astronomical connections including solar activity. Surely one comet or a comet swarm alone did not alter the solar emission?

Black Death and abrupt Earth Changes in the 14th Century
Clube and Napier note the mid 14th century as a period of high meteoritic activity .4
Meteorite impacts versus “invisible cosmically induced” changes

If cosmic factors are considered in connection with abrupt earth changes, the focus usually lies on kinetic impacts of meteorites or dust clouds. And indeed, for the Black Death period the eye-witness accounts are strongly indicative that celestial fall out was the main instigator of the climax in the human crisis of 1348.

But there are other sources of cosmic perturbations that leave much less of a finger print. Changes in solar magnetic field, modulating galactic cosmic rays, leave no craters, but can impact the stability of the biosphere dramatically, e.g. low sunspot counts and thus more cosmic ray influx are directly correlated to volcanic eruptions.5

Johannes Nohl (1926) spoke of the Black Death as a turning point that ushered in the renaissance.

It was only in 1980, when Luis Alvarez and his son provided the evidence for their hypothesis of a comet impact in the Yucatan peninsula that ended the era of the dinosaurs c. 65 million years ago, which is now well accepted knowledge.

As far as more recent episodes are concerned: the Younger Dryas Boundary event of c.10,900 BC - and the extinction of most large mammals in North America - is revealing its greater importance as new scientific findings have emerged (particularly since 2007, when new evidence for the Younger Dryas Impact hypothesis was presented)6. We are becoming aware, that this cosmically induced global catastrophe and its implications is of significance for the people of the present and the future as well.

Thus, the timespan around the Black Death may also serve as a demonstration of how public awareness of widespread extreme Earth changes (including coinciding anomalies in the skies) can be lost and forgotten in a few generations, and alternative explanations and theoretical models provided by academic consensus, are accepted as historical fact. At the same time, the eyewitness testimonies and chronicles are still publically available (backed up by geological data), making it possible to reconstruct much of the events of the time. For instance, geologist Christian Pfister explains how, after decades of severe cooling and extreme weather, wet and cool conditions led to “the absence of summer” in three consecutive years” before the onset of the Black Death.7 Indeed, the people across Europe were referring not just to the three, but the four years leading up to the Black Death as the ‘four years without summer’ (see 3.1.2).
We will examine scientific data to demonstrate that many of the eye-witness accounts, however outlandish they may seem to the modern ear, can be backed up by empirical evidence such as climatological and geological data. Recorded anomalies include reduction of solar magnetic field and sunspot activity, increased volcanic activity, anomalous sedimentation, increase in CO2, increase in biomass burning (wildfires) and much more.

Symptoms of the disease(s) of 1348
Even at the time of the Black Death pandemic, a range of various possible causes were proposed, almost all of them were based on the perception of poisons, foul odors and ‘contaminated winds’ coming from the sky, from the ground and from the sea. These were said to be directly related to earthquakes and/ or meteors. The observation of “foul” drinking

water supplies is most likely what led to the idea that ‘someone’ had poisoned the wells, which would only have been possible in some cities, considering the poisons available at the time. The Jews were accused of having done so, and executed in large numbers after confessions were extorted under torture.

In the early years of the pandemic, few seemed to have been concerned with person to person transmission of the disease, although there is an abundance of reports of people abandoning their sick loved ones. But this was apparently not because they were afraid of direct physical contagion. The idea of quarantine was introduced only at a later stage of the pandemic. However, Doctors did advise to stay away from corpses and to refrain from eating fish.

From the dozens of eyewitnesses and contemporary writers I present in this text, I found only one source that is believed to be unaltered, who explicitly claims the victims had ulcers under their armpits, others only describe ulcers or buboes distributed over the body.

Then we can compare these events to some well documented modern day examples of cosmically and geologically induced health effects. One is a meteor impact in Peru that caused a local health crisis from toxic fumes - fortunately only on a small scale (see 6.3.3) - and then there was the death of hundreds by outgassing from a lakebed in Cameroon (see 6.2.3). These events left almost no physical traces.

The study of this material may also serve to illustrate some aspects of the phenomenon which I call trauma induced collective amnesia, the tendency of societies to expel from conscious memory the awareness of an extremely dramatic, world altering event. The chronicles and historical accounts of severe Earth changes and natural disasters at the period in question are still publically available, yet most people cannot bring themselves to entertain the thought, that geologically and astronomically induced changes were responsible - either primarily or exclusively - for a dramatic population reduction by 50% or more in 35 years8, and that this happened barely 700 years ago. After going through this text, some of the readers may ask themselves, how it is that they’ve never heard of these facts in the context of the Black Death? Or even, how is it they have never heard of these facts in the context of the current debate on climate change?

The many natural disasters of the time and their implications are simply brushed under the rug of history or at most they are believed to be mere co-factors that facilitated the spread of the disease. I will not provide an alternative single interpretation for the disease or diseases. Below we’ll see, we don’t even need a contagious microorganism to explain the health related high death toll considering the severity of geological and climatological upheaval. It seems that not only historians but also the public are far more comfortable with the concept of mass casualties by a single bacterium or virus than mass casualties by heavenly disturbances, geological and climatic upheaval. I’m not suggesting there were no bacteria involved;; bacterial infections are expected as public health and standard of living declined abruptly, but the distinction between cause and effect, correlation and coincidence is by no means settled. The assumption of a single contagious agent as the main cause for a world altering crisis seems to be more comforting as it leaves some vague (even unfounded) hope that some day scientists will find a cure for all these transmittable diseases. In contrast, the prospect of a calamity that is primarily caused by a cosmic disturbance as the main instigator of a population reduction event, is far less comforting and few people are willing and able to

Black Death and abrupt Earth Changes in the 14th Century
deal with such things rationally and productively. But in fact, a well informed and responsible society would indeed be capable of preparing for potential repetitions of similar calamities and mitigate the effects thereof. And only a well informed and responsible society could.

In the interest of the concept of the ‘Renewal of life’, at the end of this text, I will touch on the exploration in the question, whether some if these phases of change, however directly devastating they turn out to be for many individuals at the time, could have an overall beneficial effect for the evolution of life and even human consciousness.
1 1300- 1350, the decades preceding the Black Death

1.1.1 The onset of the Little Ice Age
The early 1300’s did coincide with the first downward spike in temperature and the beginning of Alpine glacier expansion. The exact duration of the cold period known as the Little Ice Age is not settled. Climatologists generally refer to two dates of cooling associated with the Little Ice Age. Sirocko (2010) places the earlier event at the beginning of the 1310’s9. A more widely used time frame for the first cold phase is the coinciding solar minimum called Wolf minimum from 1280-135010. There were repeated cold snaps and advancing glaciers and sea ice from that time onward, but it was not until the early 1600’s that the most devastating effects of the Little Ice Age began to set in, which is the more commonly used date for its beginning.

Various authorities propose up to sven different dates as the beginning of this cold period (See Fig. 13). What is agreed on, however, is that the Little Ice Age was the coldest period of time within the last 10,000 years (Holocene), we are still in the process of re-approaching average temperatures, that is, global temperatures are still below the baseline of the Holocene. In short, modern day global warming – if it continued, and continued gradually - would constitute an approach to more “normal” temperatures.

Shin Kim, (2007) wrote on the effects of the early climate downturn at around 1300: “Agriculture was greatly affected by increasingly irregular and excessive rainfalls. Half a century after the catastrophe of the Black Death, i.e. the late 14th century, trade routs were interrupted by an increase of sea storminess, and northern sea routs were restricted or completely cut off by increasing appearance of drift ice".11 This increased sea storminess has remained until today and thus at least some of the changes altered the Earth permanently.

    Reconstructing weather and climate conditions
First, when we think of climate, we primarily think of temperature and precipitation over a certain time scale. This is a gross simplification, but it is usually suitable to measure and compare general long term trends. But to get the real picture, we must also take into account: short term distribution of precipitation, storms, variability of wind, cloud coverage and so on. For instance: a fertile, temperate region, with regular, moderate rain fall and an ambient temperature is in general suitable for human habitation including agriculture, but not if it is hit by ten severe hailstorms every year. Therefore, weather stability is just as important as the mean temperature and rainfall. But, available climate data sets usually show limited

resolution and smoothed curves, this is true especially for reconstructed climate data from as far back as the 14th century, in times before exact instrumental temperature measurements were recorded. The weather conditions for these years are reconstructed from anthropologic data such as weather records, harvest records, indirectly confirmed by food commodity prices but also from tree ring data, geological data such as glacial conditions.12 Not all of these markers allow for high resolution curves in temperature and precipitation;; not all disasters such as storms and floods show up in this data and must be added from anthropogenic records. So, if the temperature and precipitation curves only show, for instance 5-year-means, the climate and weather in that time may appear relatively moderate when compared with other periods. But when there is enough high resolution data to reveal enormous variability and fluctuations in weather patterns, this smoothed curve of a 5-year- period may reveal itself as a time of turbulent and destructive weather. If there is a year of drought followed by a year of flooding, this will not show in a smoothed long term rain fall curve. And indeed, in decade by decade temperature graphs, the early 14th century does not show as an obvious extreme climatic downturn and is seldom used as an example for extreme climate change in pre-industrial times.

1.1.2 End of the Medieval Climate Optimum
Europe had been flourishing, agricultural and economical conditions were very stable at the time of the Medieval Climate Optimum.
Especially in northern Europe, “the period between 1150 and 1300 was truly a flowering period, for population reached unprecedented levels that were never to be seen again until the late 18th century in many countries;; the English population experienced a staggering threefold increase in its population during the last century since the Domesday Survey in 1086”.13

This climate optimum (also called a climate anomaly) coincided with a period of increased solar activity (see below). Farming of various crops extended hundreds of kilometers farther north than it is possible today.

However, toward the end of this Climate Optimum, warm temperatures alone could not guarantee economic stability, as the weather became more erratic. “The warm period that had lasted for over two hundred years, also led to glacier ice melting and a slight rise in sea levels of up to 0,5 meters, which then contributed to a series of devastating floods in the Netherlands in the later 13th century”.14 Storms and floods left a bigger impact on the coastline geography when the waters were higher, not to mention that storms were more frequent during this period.15

By the mid 14th century, grain production in northern Europe had dramatically fallen due to a "climatic cooling that had been under way from 1250 onwards" which eventually led to the "permanence of the cessation of farming after the Black Death in Norway".16
In 2000, a well preserved cog was excavated in Belgium, its construction date was set at AD 1325/ 26. 17 It is unclear when exactly it was buried under several meters of sediment but the

Black Death and abrupt Earth Changes in the 14th Century state of preservation suggests that the accumulation of sediment took place in a short time, which indicates a tsunami or extreme flood event such as the Great Flood of 1361.

    1.2 The Great Famine 1315-1320

The favorable conditions and stable climate during the Climate Optimum led to agricultural expansion, forcing over- exploitation of the land when weather conditions started to worsen rapidly. Already beginning in the 1290s, farm land began to be abandoned and resources became scarce. The Great Famine had its most devastating impact in Europe from 1315 - 1320, it was primarily the result of crop failure due to excessive rainfall and cold temperatures. To make matters worse, cool and rainy summers were alternating with summers of droughts. The physical evidence of an increase in biomass burning is recorded for the years 1313-1319.18 (See also Chapter 5.1.3).

    Early agricultural crisis

Many scholars still hold on to the concept that it was the Black Death and the coinciding enormous population reduction that cause the agricultural crisis, starting in the second half of the 14th century. But as Kim Shin established in a dissertation about land desertion in Scandinavia”19, drastic changes, not only in climate conditions but also in population distribution, had been taking place long before. So, as the climate began to turn more erratic shortly before 1300, this was accompanied by one humanitarian crisis after another. Here are some direct statements from Shin:

“(...) even though the Black Death is thought to be a primary factor that triggered the agrarian crisis, the Black Death in itself cannot explain the desertion of farmland that began in the early 14th century before (in England) the Black Death hit northern Europe in 1348.”

“(...) the Black Death, which was a single incident, in itself cannot explain the lengthy perpetuation of the deserted settlements and stagnating population considering how the population and settlements were exploding in the period right before 1300.”20
From Lamb, 1972: (...)“The consequences were severe not only in the northernmost Scandinavian countries but in other areas as well;; populations in Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire, during the period before the Black Death, 1300-1350, seem to have decimated over twice the number of the people that had been killed by the Black Death”21

“In parts of Denmark and Norway, the desertion seems to have begun around 1320 and continued for two centuries.”.22
Pollen studies in sediments provide further clues on agriculture development when pollen of agricultural plants disappear and pollen of wild plants and non-cultivated trees regain dominance.

“In Scandinavia, and Norway in particular, a reduction in grain pollen has been recognized in the late Middle Ages”. A study conducted in Central Norway, clearly shows that corn cultivation experienced an abrupt crisis around 1300 while spruce pollen data seem relatively stable at the same time.

1.2.1 Death toll of the 1300-1350 crisis
The period from 1300-1350 saw the death of at least 50% of the population of Europe. In China, where the Black Death is said to have originated, a loss around half of the population is attributed just to the Black Death alone (going from around 123 million to around 65 million). We note, that the ultimate death toll is still controversial, most historians agree that the Great Famine of 1315 already claimed at least 30% of Europe’s population and then the Great Plague from 1347 onward, claimed at least another 30%. Assuming that the population couldn’t recover in just 35 years after the famine, the second event of mass casualties would take then 30% of the remaining 70%, amounting to a death toll of at least 51% but possibly up to 75% within 35 years. In Southern Europe, specially along the coastlines, the situation was even worse. Speaking only of the 4 years of the Black Death, some scholars believe that “In Mediterranean Europe, where the plague ran for about four years consecutively, it was probably between 70 and 75% of the total population”.23 In England, the death rate was estimated at between 45- 60%.24
A musician at the papal Court in Avignon, Louis Heylingen (sanctus) of Beeringen, writes about an even greater mortality in Avignon and the neighboring parts:
“(...) for at Marseilles all the gates of the city, with the exception of two small ones, are now closed, for there, four- fifths of the inhabitants are dead.” 25
We’ll examine below what the proximity to the sea and the various accounts of foul odors emitted from the sea have to do with this distribution pattern. Also in Palestine, (costal) Gaza seams to have been hardest hit, Ibu Battuta, Abu Abdullah (1304-1368) reports he found Gaza “depopulated due to the prior outbreak there(...) only 60 to 80 notaries remained alive.”26
To put these numbers into perspective: WW II caused the greatest loss of human life in recent history. According to conservative estimates, about 60 million people were killed in World War II, which was about 3% of the 1940 world population (of about 2.3 billion). The German population suffered the greatest loss of people in proportion to population, the death toll is disputed to be between 4.2 million27 and 7.3 million28 civilians and military death, amounting to 6 – 10% of the German population.
So, proportionally, the Great Famine of 1315- 1320 alone killed 3 to 10 times as many people of the European population as did all of WW II. We may ask ourselves how the enormous death toll of the 1315 Famine is usually only marginally taken into account in the discussion of the Black Death period.

Black Death and abrupt Earth Changes in the 14th Century
1.2.2 Two comets, famine and deluge

Geologist Rüdiger Glaser gives us the descriptions in the chronicles of Bad Windsheim (Germany, 1315) about unfavorable weather leading to crop failure and starvation in the years 1312-1315:

“Two comets were seen, and it was a wet Summer, great famine, so that in many places the people were forced to eat dogs, horses and even thieves from the gallows(...)”

The writer goes on to report the high price of cereal in the Waitland and exclaims that “it rained all Summer, great damage was done to humans, cattle and crop, to the memory of this great famine and Deluge, these verses were made(...)”29
Glaser makes no further mention of the ‘two comets’ as if they could not possibly be of any interest in the context of extreme weather events.

Climate disruption and starvation had a drastic effect on the population density of Europe: “The number of founding of European cities per year remained very high until 1310. After this date, city founding ceased abruptly. Several wet-cold summers, including harvest failures in sequence made the population suffer and led to the first large, wide spread famine in 1315 and a pronounced population decline. In the north Atlantic, for the first time, sea ice was seen in front of Iceland, indicating the Golf Stream was weakening. After this, in large parts of Europe, cereal harvest declined markedly until 1318 and starvation dominated Europe from 1315 – 1320.” 30
    More comets

Already in the early 14th century, comets were reported and mentioned in connection with famine. The chronicler Thomas Short notes:
„In December (of 1312) a Comet, which continued a Month. (Functius places this Comet in [13]12.) Hunger compelled some to eat their own Children, and some stole other People to eat. “31

It becomes apparent that the event around the time of the outbreak of the plague cannot be investigated in isolation from astronomical and meteorological anomalies of not only the previous years but decades. A worsening of the weather in Europe can be identified beginning in the 1290’s, starting to escalate at the turn of the century. As we’ll see below, these weather anomalies correspond well with the reduction in solar magnetic output and an increase in volcanic eruptions.

    Meteor swarm 1296
The volcanic eruptions also roughly coincide with the great meteor swarm impact in Velikii Usting (Russia) of 1296, as reported by the astronomer Krinow. But the stark increase in volcanic sulfur in the atmosphere (see 5.1.7) was preceding this event. At any rate, in the Velikii Usting event, eye-witnesses report that:

“there appeared over the town a dark cloud, and it was dark as the night (...) lighting kept flashing ceaselessly...Even the ground seemed to shake and sway continuously (...) clouds of fire arose and collided with one another, great heat coming from the lightening and thunder”.32

Further, Johann Nohl tells us of much cometary activity in the same years: in ‘The Black Death, A Chronicle of the Plague’, we learn that:

‘seven great comets’ between 1298 and 1314 were seen over Europe;; one was of "awe- inspiring blackness”. Many reports of foul smelling "mists" appeared continually after

seeing bright lights in the sky, followed by an outbreak of the plague.33 Here “the plague” does apparently not mean the Black Death, but a previous pandemic or health crisis of whatever origin, that would coincide with the Great Famine of 1315- 1320.
    1.2.3 1315 wars

Such dire times, that involve great population reduction events, are, needless to say, accompanied by war. Some of the battles in these conflicts are even historically connected to extreme weather. In retrospect, the easy conclusion is that starvation leads to struggle for resources and war. But the relationship between cause and effect turns out to be much more complicated.

The main conflict of the century, the Hundred Year’s War, was not to begin until 1337, but already in the 1310s, conflicts raged in Flanders, where Flemish cities rebelled against the French administration and took the count of Flanders hostage.

A military campaign against the Flemish rebels was initiated by Louis X of France in 1315, but excessively heavy rains of this summer forced him to retreat on reaching the Flemish border.34

Meanwhile in the British Isles, the Scottish, under the rule of Robert I, known as Robert the Bruce, rebelled against the English crown. He campaigned against Edward I, and defeated Edward II at the famous battle of Bannockburn in 1314. He re-established Scotland as a separate kingdom. It had only been in 1298 when William Wallace was defeated and executed by Edward I. If you happen to have seen the movie ‘Brave Heart’ (1998) you may recall that many scenes were shot in rainy weather. It turns out it wasn’t only a dramaturgical tool or proverbial Scottish weather, but the early 1300s indeed marked a time in which political and social upheaval coincided with increasingly erratic rainfalls and cooling.

Further, throughout the time of the Great Famine, Norway, Sweden and Denmark were involved in complicated power struggles.
In 1314, Ludwig of Bavaria and Duke Frederick of Austria went to war over the "double election" to the German throne.35
The members of the Swiss founding cantons gained independence from the Habsburg rulers in the decisive battle of Morgarten on November 15th, 1315.

The Swiss Confederation had only been founded in 1291. Earlier that same year, the Knights Templar lost their last strongholds in Israel and Syria and were forced to move their headquarters to Limassol on the island of Cyprus, and in 1303 they abandoned the Holy Land and returned to Europe.36 In 1307, they were famously persecuted and arrested by the king of France.

Frank Sirocko, (2010) describes how ‘The large increase in population in the High mediaeval period led to exploitation of the soil, thus the yield of grains declined drastically from 7:1 (7 grains of harvest per 1 grain of seed) to 1:3. This period in Europe was viewed by contemporary researchers as the most significant climate event in the 2nd millennium. The Little Ice Age had begun. However, in the 1320s, Europe recovered to some extent from this shock, but the weather remained cool, even though without extreme anomalies. In the 1330’s, reports of severe earthquakes and increasing drought in China and the Mediterranean region became the norm. The years 1336 to 1338 brought huge swarms of

locusts from Asia across Hungary into central Europe, they finally reached as far as the Rhine. “37
With earthquakes, flood, locusts, and falling stars, the people of the time connected the plague not only with Biblical end time prophecies, which does not require too much imagination, but also with the Ten Plagues of Egypt. The concept of poisons in the atmosphere was present in the minds of the people. In the words of J. P, Byrne:

“The final Book of the Christian Bible, known as the Apocalypse (Catholic) or the Revelations of St. John (Protestant) is a vivid and frightening description of the end of time, or eschaton. Much of the human race alive at the time is to be destroyed, not least by war, famine, and death, while seven angels pour vials of poison into the earth’s atmosphere. Coincidently, the chief explanation for the plague from the 13th through the 19th centuries was “corrupted” or poisoned air.” (...)“Well before the Black Death, people generated and read reports of unnatural (supernatural?) events including hailstorms and “rains” of fire, poisonous amphibians and reptiles, and deadly earthquakes and floods that leveled entire cities. Reports of – and then the appearance of – plague in 1347 seemed to fill out the picture.” 38
    1.2.4 Arrows

The most consistent metaphor for plague was the arrow.

It was not by accident that Italian notary Gabriele de’ Mussis described plague as “sharp arrows of sudden death”: or that Flemish Abbot Gilles li Muisis celebrated the heaven-sent arrows that decimated the Mongol Tartars before striking Europe. Some Muslin poets also pictured plague as jinn-fired arrows.39

The Umbrian physician Gentile da Foligna (c. 1275-1348) suggested a celestial connection to the plague and claimed that among sin and retribution, ‘poisonous darts of God’ (as first described by Homer) lay behind the plague.40
Already seven centuries earlier, in the Justinian plague in 590 CE, Honorius of Autun described the Justinian Plague as “arrows falling from heaven.”41

If you have seen a large shooting star or small fireball streaking across the night sky, you might get the idea that someone who doesn’t know what it is, may call it an arrow from heaven or a dragon even.

The many references of fire and poison from the sky, the population reduction and the reluctance of todays writers to take these accounts seriously, evokes the phrases from Plato’s Timaeus discourse, in which Egyptian priests told the Greek Lawmaker Solon:
“(...) The fact is, that wherever the extremity of winter frost or of summer sun does not prevent, the human race is always increasing at times, and at other times diminishing in numbers. And whatever happened either in your country or in ours, or in any other region of which we are informed (...) all that has been written down of old, and is preserved in our temples (...) and then, at the usual period, the stream from heaven descends like a pestilence, and leaves only those of you who are destitute of letters and education;; and thus you have to begin all over again as children, and know nothing of what happened in ancient times, either among us or among yourselves.”42

To avoid confusion, this quote does not refer to the 14th century, but to the legend of Atlantis, the date for its sinking given by the priests is 9,600 BC, which happens to be the date of the extremely abrupt end of the before mentioned Younger Dryas cooling period, involving a extremely sudden rise of sea levels of dozens of meters. But let’s return to the 1300s.

2 Culminating Earth changes in the 1340s
The decades of natural disasters in China and India were recorded in chronicles as recounted by Hecker and Ziegler, among others, and we will look at more detailed evidence

Black Death and abrupt Earth Changes in the 14th Century for such Earth changes below. It is generally agreed upon that the pandemic had first spread in the far east, but was for some reason confined to this continent for 15 years until suddenly erupting into Europe. This is peculiar for a contagious disease;; trade routs were not interrupted during this time.

“In China, already the 13th century Mongol conquest disrupted farming and trading, and led to widespread famine starting in 1331 with plague arriving soon after. The population dropped from approximately 120 to 60 million.” 43

“The 14th century- plague killed an estimated 25 million Chinese and other Asians during the 15 years before it entered Constantinople in 1347.” 44

In the Far East we find more eye- witness accounts of abrupt Earth changes that proceeded the Plague in Europe.
“The tenth Yuan emperor, Kublai Khan’s great-great-grandson Toghon Temur, sat on the Chinese throne. He had been crowned in 1333, aged thirteen. For eleven years he had been the passive ruler of a top-heavy, bureaucratic-stuffed, unevenly taxed empire, run for him by Ho’s chancellors.

Five years after his coronation, an obscure little village below Lake Issyk-Kul began to die. We know this only from the headstones found in the village graveyard;; hundreds of them date from the years 1338 and 1339. “This is the grave of Kuthuk,” one reads. He died of the plague with his wife.”

No contemporary account traces the spread of the illness in the next six years, but plenty of chroniclers record other disasters: drought and famine in the Huai river valley, torrential flooding rains in the province at Canton and Houkouang, locusts in Honan, an earthquake that carved a new lake into the Ki-Ming-Chan mountain range. “45

(The last statement is based on Ziegler, who said the lake was 100 leagues long (500 km).

At the same time in India, great geological changes were recorded. From Wikipedia we learn: “In the year 1341 (day unknown) the great flood in the river Periyar in modern-day southern India led to the river changing its course, closing off Muziris, opening up Cochin (Kochi) harbor, it submerged some islands and gave birth to some new islands.”46

More land desertion and tax reduction in 1340s
Meanwhile in Europe, we see addidional land desertion in Norway: According to a map constructed by Shin (2008), already in 1340, taxes and rents were reduced and/or land was deserted in a large number of estates in the parishes north of Jostedalsbreen (After Grove). Both cases “would strongly suggest the expansion of the glacier. Judging from these kinds of indirect evidence and scientific evidence, it can be concluded that glaciers and permafrost of Norway, Iceland, and the Alps started to advance in the 13th century”.47
And at the same time, rents and taxes had to be reduced in England. Later, during the Black Death pandemic, tax reliefs had to be granted to the fishing industry.

“Though this seems to be a seemingly sound explanation, and it is very likely that the desertion gained considerable momentum due to the Black Death, the Plague could not have been the real initiator because land desertion was a phenomenon that started to be observed as early as the second decade of the 14th century. Studies in Denmark also indicate that records of deserted farms go back to as early as 1334.”

(...) “Rent, the price of land, was nothing like it used to be in the early 1300s. (...) In the interiors of Norway the rent fell to as little as one-fifth of what it used to be. Areas that experienced falling rent usually also witnessed reductions in tax and decreasing capital interests. As usual, Norway was the extreme case;; by 1387 production and tax yields in some Norwegian districts were as little as 12% of what they had been around 1300.” 48

    Extreme Weather and harvest failure

For the 1340s, weather anomalies are recorded in various European chronicles. Here an excerpt from R. Glaser, concerning the north of the Alps region:

“1346 was described as a cold year, in which there were almost no warm intervals until June. Only at the end of June it was hot according to reports from Lindau. The wine bloom was delayed respectively. Also 1347 was a year of much precipitation, in which bloom and harvest were delayed. The entire summer it rained, the harvest again turned out very poor. For instance, barley could not be harvested at all and wine harvest was undertaken very late, as late as November. But even then, there was only a very poor quality of vine, that no one could drink”. The following description is from a contemporary writer by the name of Zettl:

“In the same year, the entire summer was so cold and rainy that all the fruits of the land grew late and were harvested with delay and thus all the fruits remained unripe. Also the fruits of wine, the grapes were so hard, that they could not be eaten.” 49
    Greenland

In the far north-west, at the onset of the Black Death, the Greenland colonies were abandoned abruptly. The commonly held view, still persisting in academia today, maintains that the bacterial plague had spread to the island and the survivors attempted to flee to the American mainland. However, the increasing drift ice had made it extremely difficult to maintain contact to the European continent and as even Iceland struggled to have trade relations at least once a year in these decades, we cannot even be sure whether any ships made it to Greenland at all during the Black Death. H.C.J. Hecker also claims that they didn’t (see below).

“In Greenland, the Norse (Icelandic) settlers had sustained themselves for 400 years. They arrived in either 985 or 986 AD under Eric the Red. Then, a cooling period erupted and farming ended abruptly, the coldest winter in 800 years occurred sometime between 1350 and 1355, the later date lies beyond the Black Death time frame. Around 1350 AD, the Norse Settlement known as the Western Settlement vanished.”50

So, this suggests that rather than being killed by plague, the settlers were driven away by cold weather and hindered by drift ice from evacuating to Europe, and trying to sustain themselves in Newfoundland.

Greenland had been a prospering colony during the Medieval Climate Optimum. There was a Bishop of Greenland established on the west coast of that island in AD 1329 by Pope John XXIL51 This also suggests the probability of it being a trade outpost to the American mainland even at the time.

Chambers and Olge (2002) note (for Greenland), ‘two very cold winters’ in 1352 A.D. and 1355 A.D., as they were recorded in the GISP2 Ice cores. Other researchers point out that both the summers of 1351 and 1352 were “evidently very cold” and led to the abandonment

of the Western Settlements.52 Keep in mind that Ice core dating does not allow for absolute dates, so the exact years given may be corrected over time. According to J. Guiot, (2010), the ice cores of Greenland have a low resolution, of at best 5–10 years. At any rate, the Greenland settlers abandoned their colonies in these years after farming collapsed and glaciers and sea ice expanded.
As mentioned above, J.F.C. Hecker tells us that during the Black Death: “In Denmark and Norway, people were so occupied with their own misery, that the accustomed voyages to Greenland ceased. Towering icebergs formed at the same time on the coast of East Greenland, in consequence of the general concussion of the earth's organism;; and no mortal, from that time forward, has ever seen that shore or its inhabitants.”53  Indeed, the northern and eastern shores of Greenland, which had been mapped in detail by the Norse during their settlement era, are still covered in glacier ice to this day.

Meanwhile in the British Isles, there seems to have been an early awareness of a pending health crisis. One year before the Black Death broke out in Europe (in Sicily), Edward III proclaimed in 1346, “that anyone proven leprous must leave within 15 days, whatever their station in life and betake themselves to places in the country, solitary and notably distant from the city and suburbs“.54

He considered health risks for the general public, after the same law of isolating lepers from the population had been applied more or less unchanged over centuries.

Did the king anticipate a sudden public health crisis in England before there were any reasons to believe that Europe would be struck with an epidemic? Or were there already ‘outbreaks’ of unexplained diseases in the city at the time?

The above mentioned 19th century author J.F.C. Hecker was one of the most important authorities on the Black Death, and I add that he does represent the official doctrine of the mono-causal, bacterial cause of the pandemic. Here is an extended excerpt from his Black

    Death and the Dancing Mania:
“Probably few places escaped, perhaps not any;; for the annuals of contemporaries’ report that throughout the land only a tenth part of the inhabitants remained alive.

In Poland the affected were attacked with spitting blood, and died in a few days in such vast numbers, that, as it has been affirmed, scarcely a fourth of the inhabitants were left”55

As alluded to above, no reliable numbers are available for Asia, outside of China. But descriptive accounts of natural disasters and famines in Asia lead to assume that the situation was not better than in Europe. Rather worse, considering the numerous accounts of a corrupted atmosphere and foul winds coming from the east. The numbers for the world outside of Eurasia can only be estimated by indirect means. However, records of natural disasters and abrupt climate change in the Americas demonstrate that the pandemic was connected to a global climate event (page 72).

    To continue with Hecker:

“In thousands of places chasms were formed, from whence arose noxious vapors;; and as at that time natural occurrences were transformed into miracles, it was reported, that a fiery meteor, which descended on the earth far in the East, had destroyed everything within a circumference of more than a hundred leagues56, infecting the air far and wide. The consequences of innumerable floods contributed to the same effect;; vast river districts had been converted into swamps;; foul vapors arose everywhere, increased by the odor of sulfur.

purified locusts, which had never perhaps darkened the sun in thicker swarms, and of countless corpses, which even in the well−regulated countries of Europe, they knew not how to remove quickly enough out of the sight of the living. It is probable, therefore, that the atmosphere contained foreign, and sensibly perceptible, admixtures to a great extent, which, at least in the lower regions, could not be decomposed, or rendered ineffective by separation.”

Again, these descriptions are generally viewed by academics as either merely allegorical or in other ways irrelevant in the context of the Black Death.

Climate change in the 6th century
Let’s go further back in time another 800 years or so for a moment. We find that the period 535- 536 A.D. is today well excepted as a time of abrupt climate change. These series of events are conservatively rated as the “most severe and protracted short-term episodes of cooling in the Northern Hemisphere in the last 2,000 years”.57 The historical evidence of this episode of extreme climate events, having lasted well into the 540’s, will be dealt with in a future chapter of my ‘Renewal of Earth’ series. The first Plague Pandemic began in the 520’s or 530’s during Justinian’s reign (thus the Justinian Plague). The decline and fall of the Roman Empire played out in this period.

In this era also, heavenly anomalies were strongly indicated to have played a role not only in Earth changes but in the plague, as we saw in Honorius of Autun’s description of the Justinian Plague in 590 as “arrows falling from heaven.” We find the same theme of ‘Arrows from heaven’ in the context of “hail or fire from the sky”, intermingled with analogies of the ‘punishment from God’, in the 1348 plague pandemic.

In comparison to the 5th and 6th century crisis, the astronomical and meteorological events of the early 1300’s, the decades of extreme Earth changes and weather downturn in Europe and Asia preceding the Black Death, are largely ignored today or at the most considered as mere co-factors.

Clube and Napier concluded that there was a increase in meteorite activity not only within the decades after 450 AD, but also in the decades around the 1350s.58

No evidence for solid surface impact(s) in the 14th century

The climate disruption in Europe and in other parts of the world went along with comet sightings and other celestial anomalies which were frequently reported. Witting the past millennia, there have been many incidents of isolated surface impacts, some of which will be narrated in the course of this text. The more recent ones are well documented, however not widely discussed. For instance, one impact was called the Donnerstein (thunderstone) of Ensisheim, Germany in 1492. (The date is November 7th, again near the peak of the Taurid meteor stream.)

Note the age of the "underlying structures" on which the 3,000 yr old structures were built. Tracks very close to the 12,068 yr mini Nova cycle. Next Nova expected August 2046. 27 years to go.

Graham Hancock has an amazing talent for bringing serious intellectual and scientific rigor to bear in challenging established ideas in a way that is fresh and inspiring. He was just on the Joe Rogan Experience to talk about the archeological dogma that viciously suppressed the study of human activity in the Americas before 13,000 years ago, which is the subject of his latest book, ‘America Before’.

The dogma has been that the New World did not become significantly populated until much later than the Old World. However, recent discoveries of human remains have found Anatomically Modern Humans in the Americas proven to be from 50,000 years ago, as compared with 60,000 years ago in Europe and Asia.

If archeology is wrong about the peopling of the Americas, which appears to be the case, then what else have they been wrong about? Dogma says that civilization as we know it began in Sumeria 6,000 years ago but Hancock is adamant that not enough work has been done to categorically rule out that civilization may have been developed in the Americas first, because archeologists have simply not been digging at the layers where they would make such discoveries.

The rampant deforestation of the Amazon, however has been revealing the remains of vast cities there that pre-date those of Ancient Greece – and much larger.

Earth Changes from September 2017 - to present / Biblical Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Floods, Volcanic Activity, Fires, Snow Ice Storms - Page 14 Rain-bomb234
TORRENTIAL RAIN OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS IS CAUSING IMMENSE DEVASTATION FOR MIDWEST FARMERS
The outlook for U.S. agricultural production in 2019 is exceedingly grim
    https://www.infowars.com/torrential-rain-of-biblical-proportions-is-causing-immense-devastation-for-midwest-farmers/

The wettest 12 months in all of U.S. history was followed by the second wettest May on record, and for some parts of the Midwest the month of June will be even worse.

Some portions of Ohio and Indiana have gotten 10 more inches of rain since Friday, and more rain is literally falling on the Midwest as I write this article.  When I describe what we have witnessed as “torrential rain of Biblical proportions”, I am not exaggerating even a little bit.  Even before we got to the month of June, farmers in the middle of the country were already dealing with a disaster unlike anything that they had ever experienced before.  And just when everyone thought that it couldn’t possibly get any worse, it did.  Since Friday, the rainfall totals in the Ohio Valley have been staggering…
As much as 10 inches of rain has fallen in the Ohio Valley since Friday, causing flooding, necessitating water rescues and creating a mudslide near Lexington, Kentucky.

Parts of southern Indiana have seen 10 inches of rain, while up to half a foot fell in parts of Ohio. Other parts of Kentucky have reported 5 inches.

More rain is coming for the rest of the week, and that is exceptionally bad news for Midwest farmers.
At this point, millions of acres that farmers had intended to plant with corn will go completely unused.  And according to a Washington Post article that was republished by MSN, corn futures are surging because traders are anticipating “an impending shortage” of corn…

Ohio trailed behind, with 68 percent of its corn planted, South Dakota had 78 percent, and Michigan and Indiana each had 84 percent of their hoped-for acres planted. Last week, the USDA lowered the projected total yield to 13.68 billion bushels (last year’s corn yield was 14.3 billion bushels). And as of Monday, in anticipation of an impending shortage, corn futures continued to trade at their highest level since June 2014.

I know that the USDA is projecting that somehow we will get to 13.68 billion bushels of corn, but a lot of experts are convinced that the USDA’s reduced projection is still wildly optimistic.

In some parts of the heartland, it literally looks like a hurricane just came through.  When Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Dorothy Pelanda recently toured farms in her state, she saw fields that were “filled with water and weeds instead of crops”…

“I visited with several farmers this week and saw firsthand the impact of this devastating rainfall. Fields are visibly filled with water and weeds instead of crops,” states Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Dorothy Pelanda in the press release.

And for Ohio farmer Charles Kettering, hundreds of acres that he recently planted with corn and soybeans can’t be seen at all because they are currently underwater…

As much as a third of the 800 acres of corn and soybeans that Kettering planted a few weeks ago is currently underwater. The chances of that part of his crop surviving are next to nothing. As little as a full day underwater is enough to kill off whatever he planted. The deluge of heavy rain in late May and early June flooded much of the area’s fertile farmland, including Kettering’s acreage, which sits in the bottom of a valley.

As a result of the flooding here in June, the Ketterings will lose approximately $100,000.
Could you imagine how you would feel if you were suddenly hit with a financial loss of that magnitude?

Other farmers will be hit with huge losses at the end of the season when yields are way down.  Thanks to the absolutely horrific weather, it is being projected that yields could be down by more than 50 percent for some Ohio farmers…
For those planting corn in June, yield losses are likely—even if the grower has switched to a shorter-season variety, said Peter Thomison, a corn field specialist with CFAES. The losses hinge on growing conditions after planting, but they could be more than 50% for some farmers, he said.

In the end, there is no way that we are going to come anywhere close to the 14.3 billion bushels of corn that was harvested in the U.S. last year, and that is going to have ripple effects that are going to last for a very long time.
For many Midwest farmers, this will be their last year in operation.  Farm bankruptcies had already risen to the highest level since the last recession even before all of this rain, and this unprecedented disaster will be the final nail in the coffin for a lot of farms that have been teetering on the brink.

According to one recent survey, it is expected that the number of farm loan defaults over the next year will be double what we saw in 2017…

Midwestern bankers are tightening the purse strings on farm credit lines amid some of the toughest financial times for farmers in decades.

A survey of bank CEOs by Creighton University’s Heider College of Business found they expect the percentage of farm loan defaults over the next 12 months in a number of Midwestern states, including Illinois, to be double the default rates for 2017.

I keep warning that our planet is becoming increasingly unstable and that global weather patterns are changing dramatically.  Midwest farmers are desperately hoping for some drier weather, but instead a lot more rain is coming…
The true scope of this crisis will not be fully known until harvest time rolls around, but right now the outlook for U.S. agricultural production in 2019 is exceedingly grim.

Perhaps things will soon dry out and we will have picture perfect weather for the rest of the growing season. If that happens, it will definitely help matters greatly.

But there is also the possibility that Midwest farmers could be hammered by extreme rain, extreme heat and/or an early frost.

Sadly, at this point it certainly wouldn’t take very much to turn an exceedingly bad growing season into a catastrophic one.

Carol, I nearly had a heart-attack. Your post seemed to mirror Douglas Vogt's theory of 'God's Day of Judgment' which I've posted for several years. I have a morbid sense of curiosity regarding the End of the World. Regarding the 'Feeling Like You're Dying Post' What If Humanity is Being Demonically-Possessed and/or Electronically-Controlled and that those who successfully resist this reprehensible state of affairs will be murdered?? I'm very suspicious of Earth-Changes and Frequency-Changes. Natural-Catastrophes Might be Anything But Natural.

Colorado's snowpack is 40 times normal after rare summer solstice dump
    https://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/Colorado-s-snowpack-is-40-times-normal-after-rare-14036967.php

On summer's opening day, up to 20 inches of snow buried the high terrain of the Colorado Rockies, boosting the state's snowpack to extraordinary levels for the time of year.

The solstice flakes marked a continuation of a snowy stretch that began in January and February and lingered through spring. Even before the solstice snow, The Denver Post wrote, the state's snowpack was "in virtually every numerical sense . . . off the charts." At the time, the snowpack was 751 percent above normal.

Due to the new snow Friday into the weekend, the Natural Resources Conservation Service reported that the state's snowpack ballooned to 4,121 percent above normal as of Monday. This number is so high because ordinarily very little snow is left by late June, and cold temperatures late into the spring helped preserve what fell earlier.

After the weekend blanket of white, the scenes in the high country west of Denver resembled midwinter. Enough snow fell to close roads, while many ski areas reported accumulation, including Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, Arapahoe Basin and Steamboat Springs.

At Steamboat, snow stakes showed up to around 20 inches Saturday. CNN wrote that the last time this area witnessed snow this late in the season was June 17, 1928.
It averages just 0.1 inches in June and normally sees its last day of snow around May 6.

At Arapahoe Basin, so much snow has fallen since the winter that it has stayed opened for skiing on weekends through the month. It declared Saturday a powder day after a fresh coating of two inches. The resort plans to open again next weekend and possibly over the July 4 weekend, its blog says.

The snow was triggered by an unusually cold pool of air at high altitudes over the western United States combined with a vigorous weather disturbance that ejected out of the Southwest.

While the snow may have some in the Colorado high country craving warmer temperatures, the onslaught of precipitation since January has ended a costly drought in the state, and the elevated snowpack and runoff are expected to lower Colorado's wildfire risk through the summer.

    FRANCE HOTTEST DAY IN HISTORY!
    MANURE EXPLODES IN SPAIN
    RED WARNING ITALY

Europe Heat Wave Kills Several in France, Spain

Several deaths are being blamed on the scorching, record-breaking heat wave blanketing much of Europe.

The news agency Europa Press reported that at least two people have died in Spain from the heat, according to the Associated Press. Authorities in France are also linking at least four deaths to the heat, the AP reported.

Also in France, a 6-year-old child suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by high-pressure water shooting from a fire hydrant that was illegally opened.

France issued its first-ever "red" weather alert since a new warning system was put into place after scores of deaths in a similar heat wave in 2003.

The red alert is the highest warning and was issued on Thursday for the Marseille and Montpellier areas in southeastern France, the Associated Press reported.

Some 4,000 schools across the country closed, outdoor events were cancelled and volunteers were sent to check on the elderly.

"This heat wave is exceptional by its intensity and its earliness," Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said, according to the AP.

"Measures have been taken for the most vulnerable people. But given the intensity of the heat wave, it's the entire population who must be careful today ... both for oneself and for loved ones and neighbors."

An estimated 15,000 heat-related deaths were reported in France following the 2003 summer heat wave. The deaths prompted the nation's weather service to institute a four-level warning system for high temperatures.

ord high temperatures set in the summer of 2003 were shattered on Friday. The mercury hit 115 degrees in Gallargues-le-Montueux - the highest temperature ever recorded in France. At least 11 other locations across the nation also tied or broke the previous all-time record high temperature, according to the French national weather agency.

"A heat wave of this amplitude so early in the year, in June, is exceptional," Meteo France meteorologist France Christelle Robert told the AP. "We should expect more intense and frequent heat waves with climate change, because it will accentuate the extremes."

An Icelandic horse is sprayed with water in Wehrheim near Frankfurt, Germany, on a hot and sunny Wednesday, June 26, 2019. Zoo animals are being given cold water and special treats to help them beat the heat.

Seven cities in Italy, including Florence, Rome and Turin, were also at their nation's highest heat warning level.

The warnings came as much of Europe - where air conditioning is rare in homes and even in many public buildings - continues to swelter under the current record-breaking heat wave.

In Spain, firefighters continue to struggle to contain a wildfire fueled by the hot and dry conditions. The fire, in the northeast region of Catalonia, had burned more than 21 square miles of land, the Associated Press reported. More than 120 firefighters were working to contain the blaze and 53 residents had been evacuated. Miquel Buch, the regional interior minister, said the fire was the worst to hit Catalonia in 20 years.

Officials think the fire started in a manure storage area, and spread due to winds and the extreme heat.

Much of western and central Europe are suffering in scorching weather pushed in by a plume of hot air from Africa.

A record high of 101.5 degrees, was set Wednesday in Coschen, Germany, on the border with Poland, according to the German weather service. It was the hottest June temperature ever recorded in Germany. Record highs for June were also set in the Czech Republic and Poland, where temperatures also topped 100 degrees.

Besides France and Italy, heat warnings were issued in several countries as people flocked to to beaches, lakes, rivers, pools and public fountains to cool off.

Officials in Germany ordered speed limits on parts of the Autobahn lowered to prevent the road from buckling.

The transport ministry in Germany's Saxony-Anhalt state, in the north of the country, set speed limits at 62 mph and 75 mph earlier this week on several stretches of the roadway.

The famed Autobahn, Germany's interstate highway system, is known for its high-speed driving. Maximum speeds along most parts of the Autobahn are usually 75 or 80 mph, while some sections have no speed limit at all.

The buckling phenomenon is blamed on aging infrastructure. The older roads were constructed with concrete that can't withstand high temperatures.

In 2013, a motorcyclist died and four other people were injured after driving over a heat-caused bulge on the Autobahn in Bavaria.

The European heat wave is being caused by a large dome of high pressure aloft over the continent that is tapping into a hot air mass from northern Africa, weather.com meteorologist Christopher Dolce said.

Guadalajara (Mexico) (AFP) - A freak hail storm on Sunday struck Guadalajara, one of Mexico's most populous cities, shocking residents and trapping vehicles in a deluge of ice pellets up to two meters (yards) deep.

"I've never seen such scenes in Guadalajara," said the state governor, Enrique Alfaro.

"Then we ask ourselves if climate change is real. These are never-before-seen natural phenomenons," he said. "It's incredible."

Guadalajara, located north of Mexico City and with a population of around five million, has been experiencing summer temperature of around 31 Centigrade (88 Fahrenheit) in recent days.

While seasonal hail storms do occur, there is no record of anything so heavy.

At least six neighborhoods in the city outskirts woke up to ice pellets up to two meters deep.

While children scampered around and hurled iceballs at each other, Civil Protection personnel and soldiers brought out heavy machinery to clear the roads.

Nearly 200 homes and businesses reported hail damage, and at least 50 vehicles were swept away by the deluge of ice in hilly areas, some buried under piles of pellets.

While no casualties were reported, two people showed "early signs of hypothermia," the state Civil Protection office said.

DAY TURNS NIGHT IN S. AMERICA
Thousands marvel as total eclipse darkens Chile, Argentina

LA SERENA, Chile (AP) — Tens of thousands of tourists and locals gaped skyward Tuesday as a total eclipse of the sun darkened the heavens over Chile and Argentina.

Tourists from around the world gathered to witness the cosmic spectacle, which began in the morning as the moon crossed in front of the sun and cast a shadow that passed over a tiny uninhabited atoll in the South Pacific and headed to South America. Chile and Argentina were the only inhabited places where the total eclipse could be seen.

The eclipse made its first landfall in Chile at 3:22 p.m. (1922 GMT) in La Serena, a city of some 200,000 people where the arrival of more than 300,000 visitors forced the local water company to increase output and service gas stations to store extra fuel. Police and health services were also reinforced.

“Oh! Oh! Oh!” thousands of spectators shouted as they jumped and danced without taking their eyes off the sky. After a brief moment of silence, the yelling returned as the sun’s rays began reaching Earth again.

Others shouted “Long live, Chile!” — a chant used at sporting events. In northern Chile, meteorologists measured a three-degree Centigrade drop in temperature and in the center a two-degree drop.

“Today Chile is the world capital of astronomy,” said Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, alluding to the dozens of giant observatories in the country, which amount to about half the world’s telescopic capacity. “We are the eyes and senses of humanity to be able to look, observe and study the stars and the universe.”

In the Argentine town of Chascomús, dozens braved near-freezing temperatures and strong winds and claimed a spot at a pier in a lagoon, hoping to catch a glimpse of the eclipse.

“I’ve been looking at the sky since my youth. My first telescope when I was a kid was made out of cardboard,” said Ricardo Rumie, a 68-year-old veteran eclipse-watcher, who set up his camera with a tripod and a telescope with a sun filter along the banks of the lagoon.

“I’ve seen other eclipses but never like this one. I just couldn’t miss it. For me it’s something supreme.”

Yoga teacher Cecilia Magnicaballi searched for the best spot to watch the eclipse with a green mat under her arm.

“This is about taking out the darkness, letting the sun, the light come in,” she said.

Some rushed to buy the cardboard-framed protective eyeglasses at the last minute.

“This is something that they say won’t repeat itself for like 300 years, so we wanted to bring our son,” said Maximiliano Giannobile, who arrived at the pier with 18-month-old Vitto wrapped in a puffy jacket and several layers of clothes.

Northern Chile is known for clear skies and some of the largest, most powerful telescopes on Earth are being built in the area.

“In the past 50 years we’ve only had two eclipses going over observatories. So when it happens and an observatory lies in the path of a totality, it really is special for us,” said Elyar Sedaghati, an astronomer working as a fellow at the European Southern Observatory in Paranal, Chile.

“We can finally use our toys during the day because it’s always at night that we use them.”

The town of La Higuera was also plunged into total darkness.

“We hope this milestone will transform (our town) into a tourist attraction, so that visitors ... can come to La Higuera and take a picture where there once was a total sun eclipse,” Mayor Yerko Galleguillos said.

Town officials distributed more than 2,000 cardboard-frame protective eyeglasses at local schools and community centers while workers built statues of huge sunglasses and a darkened sun on a local square.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun and scores a bull’s-eye by completely blocking out the sunlight.

Thousands of visitors also trekked to neighboring areas of Argentina where the eclipse also will be total.

The San Juan provincial government installed telescopes and public viewing areas. Astronomers in Buenos Aires province offered yoga and meditation classes during the eclipse, which were also partially visible in other South American countries.

The Earth’s next total solar eclipse will be Dec. 14, 2020, and it also will cross Chile and Argentina, though on a different path.

In 2017, millions of people in the United States witnessed the phenomena, with a full solar eclipse visible in parts of 14 states and a partial eclipse seen in nearly the entire country. It was the first such widespread eclipse in the U.S. since 1918.

Associated Press journalist Mauricio Cuevas reported this story in La Serena and AP writer Eva Vergara reported from Santiago, Chile. AP writers Almudena Calatrava and Luis Andres Henao in Chascomús, Argentina, contributed to this report.

Heavy monsoon rains are being blamed for the deaths of at least 35 people in India. At least 21 bodies were recovered from Mumbai’s slums Tuesday, where several walls collapsed on shanties.

Officials estimate some places have received more than 20-inches of rain in the past few days, while other areas recorded nearly 10-inches in just 24-hours.

Train and air services were suspended after a plane skidded off the runway at the city’s airport, which has brought the region to a stand still.

“There is severe water-logging on the roads. BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) is indifferent. What do we do? How do we drive our vehicles? Children who want to go to school are also facing problems. Schools are still open, but the roads are filled with potholes. Last year, a doctor had an accident and died because of these potholes in this area. When we drive, we can’t see anything on the roads.” — Sheikh Mohammad, Mumbai resident

This is the most amount of rain the region has received in more than a decade. India’s monsoon season typically lasts from June until September.

Federal officials raised the alert level for Hawaii's Mauna Loa to 'advisory'
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7206991/Alert-level-increased-worlds-largest-volcano-Hawaii.html

Federal officials raised the alert level Tuesday for the world's largest active volcano, Hawaii's Mauna Loa, which last erupted in 1984.

The U.S. Geological Survey changed the level from 'normal' to 'advisory' following a steady increase in earthquakes and ground swelling that began in March.

An eruption is not imminent, but scientists are closely monitoring Mauna Loa because of its reputation for 'evolving very quickly' and sending lava far and wide, USGS research geophysicist Ingrid Johanson told The Associated Press in a phone interview last month.

'Lava can go from the rift down to the ocean on the west side of Mauna Loa on the order of a couple hours,' Johanson said. 'The rate of the eruption is just really fast.'

U.S. Geological Survey changed the level from 'normal' to 'advisory' following a steady increase in earthquakes and ground swelling that began in March (the volcano in April in the background)

Mauna Loa has erupted 33 times since 1843.

Its lava flows have stretched to the south and west coasts eight times and neared Hilo, on the east side, seven times. During its last eruption, lava flows came within 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) of Hilo, the Big Island's largest city.

The alert level on Mauna Loa was last raised to advisory in 2015. A similar period of increased activity occurred around 2004, but the USGS Volcano Alert Level system was not yet in place at that time.

'Advisory' is the second of four alert levels and means scientists have detected elevated activity or unrest. The next level, 'watch,' means there is heightened activity with more potential for eruption or that an eruption is ongoing but poses little threat. The highest level, 'warning,' means a dangerous eruption is imminent or underway.

An alert-level change is not something the USGS does lightly, said Janet Babb, an agency geologist and spokeswoman. It must balance the need to keep people informed and the risk of causing panic. 'A lot of discussion goes into it because it has ramifications,' Babb said.

An eruption is not imminent, but scientists are closely monitoring Mauna Loa because of its reputation for 'evolving very quickly' and sending lava far

Mauna Loa currently is experiencing 50 to 75 earthquakes a week, a steady increase since March when there was a pronounced change. And the bulging of the ground, known as deformation, indicates magma is entering the volcano's plumbing system.

Yet gas emissions have been low and steady in recent months, and 'that tells us that there isn't magma rising to very shallow depths,' Johanson said.

And scientists would expect to see 50 to several hundred earthquakes per day - not per week - ahead of an eruption, USGS volcanologist and geologist Frank Trusdell said.

'It's above background, but it isn't the amount of earthquakes we would expect to see prior to an eruption,' Trusdell said.

Earth Changes from September 2017 - to present / Biblical Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Floods, Volcanic Activity, Fires, Snow Ice Storms - Page 14 15564272-7206991-image-a-28_1562125497779
Mauna Loa's smaller neighbor to the south, Kilauea, has long been the world's most active volcano.

Mauna Loa has erupted 33 times since 1843 (the volcano in 1994)

It made headlines last year as molten rock exploded from its flank in one of its largest eruptions in recorded history. More than 700 Big Island homes were destroyed and thousands of people were displaced.

Trusdell said there is historical evidence of a 'general correlation' between the two volcanoes.

'If you look at the long-term eruptive history of both volcanoes, when one volcano in the past was active, it seems like the other volcano was quiet,' Trusdell said.

Kilauea stopped erupting for the first time in more than 30 years in 2018.

But 'it is not as if Kilauea is stealing Mauna Loa's volume,' he said. 'It has more to do with the interaction and the buttressing of the volcanoes.'

Earth Changes from September 2017 - to present / Biblical Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Floods, Volcanic Activity, Fires, Snow Ice Storms - Page 14 15564270-7206991-image-a-27_1562125491098

Its lava flows have stretched to the south and west coasts eight times and neared Hilo, on the east side, seven times. During its last eruption, lava flows came within 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) of Hilo, the Big Island's largest city (1984 eruption)

Mauna Loa and Kilauea are fed by different portions of a hot spot deep within the Earth's crust, but Mauna Loa basically rests up against Kilauea and both volcanoes are sliding to the south. When Kilauea stops moving, it can cause pressure to build in Mauna Loa.

'With the eruption over in (Kilauea's) east rift zone, maybe the flank will stop,' Trusdell said. 'Then Mauna Loa's flank will buttress up against the immobile Kilauea and the trickle of magma that has been feeding the volcano will build positive pressure and drive an eruption.'

But there have been times that both volcanoes have erupted simultaneously, and there are other factors at play, Trusdell said.

At the beginning of the 2018 Kilauea eruption, a large earthquake struck the Big Island and destabilized the entire region.

Trusdell said if the theory is correct and the motion caused by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake isn't that significant, Mauna Loa could be 'reawakening.'

But it's too early to be certain, he warned.

'The last time we had a large earthquake like this it took a decade for the flank to decelerate,' Trusdell said. 'It could be that this complicates that simple relationship of one volcano buttressing against the other because the flank is still moving.'
