Thank you, Brook, for this post. Elephants are such special creatures! Looking at this tubby, it reminds me of a holiday meeting with a family, in Cornwall UK, who lives mostly in the wild, the father having lived with elephants and monkeys when he was young, in Africa.
He told me about his saving of a young elephant, which was hanging on the edge of a cliff.
His parents were in huge distress, which made him alert on the situation and he helped,
pulling up their baby with a rope, the parents with him, all working together.
After that, the father didn't want him to leave.... felt like he was part of the family now.
Which he chose to be for a while, living in the wild anyway. He knew of the way elephants show the way to each other and he drew a circle in the sand, making an arrow pointing one way and another one pointing the other way, trying to convey his decision to leave the elephant.
He pointed to himself and an arrow, then pointed to the elephant and the other arrow.
The elephant simply wiped out the other arrow......
